Hometown Pizza — Restaurant in Independence Charter Township

Review update: Talked to the owner, Clyde, via text and on the phone. We couldn't identify what the cause of the excess salty flavor was, but he insisted on having me try their pizza again (on the house) because he was certain that he could improve on my initial experience. So I ordered the supreme thin crust pizza again and also tried the Hawaiian pizza, too, this time. What a difference from last week! The supreme looked totally different/better than the first time, and it was great! Could taste all of the flavors of the toppings and there was none of the saltiness from before. The Hawaiian was excellent; the best one I've ever had, in fact. Hometown Pizza cares about the product they put out and the happiness of their customers. Clyde is clearly very committed to his business and the community. He takes great pride in providing a superior product and is willing to go the extra mile to ensure the customer's complete satisfaction, unlike the majority of chain restaurants... I am changing my rating from three to five stars.

Super nice on the phone and at pickup. First time ordering here; wanted to try something new. I thought it was just me, but others agreed that the pizza was extremely salty.... couldn't taste any of the toppings over the salt. We chalked it up to a bad batch of sauce or something. I saw a few others mention the saltiness in their review, so maybe it's not just us? Will have to try something else besides...

This is an update from my 1st review. First and foremost most I want to give a huge thank you to Clyde and his crew at Hometown pizza for exceptional customer service! Within hours of my last review Clyde reached out to me and asked that I please give them the opportunity to re-make my order. He said they take extreme pride in the quality of their food and their customers. A few days went by and I actually forgot about his call. He reached out to me for a second time and asked again if they could re-make our order and deliver it right away. I said sure and actually added the fettuccine Alfredo and a grilled chicken wrap. I tried paying for the additional items I had added and he absolutely refused to let me. I was shocked and blown away by his care and the concern to do everything he could to make it right. Long story short, EVERYTHING was amazing and I would have rated them a 10 if the stars went that high! We will definitely be ordering from them in the future and passing along the story to many! Thanks guys! The even greater part is I didn’t have to cook dinner tonight!! What a treat to me!!

1st review: Pizza was a good size for a large. Pizza dough was thick if you like lots of crust. Pizza sauce needs a dash of sugar it was quite acidic. Breadsticks were nice size and tasted great. Fish dinner might have been good but I think someone forgot it in the deep fryer, wayyy over cooked as well as the batter tasted like oil that needed...

I am blown away with how horribly rude the person I just spoke with was! We have ordered delivery from here once before. The previous person was certain they delivered to our address and we got our food with ease. Tonight I called to order delivery again, and the "gentleman" on the other end of the phone asked me what road I was near and then exclaimed they absolutely do not deliver that far. I told him I may have said the wrong road since I am new to the area... He argued back that he has "lived in Clarkston for 30 years" and knows where it's at and that they don't go that far. I told him a crossroad at the other side of our neighborhood because I figured it was miscommunication since the previous delivery happened with ease. He explained he knew exactly where I was and rudely said they don't deliver there. I told him maybe to inform the other drivers for their company and he argued with me stating that he doesn't know anyone that would go that far....as if our previous delivery never happened...but it did, and it was delicious. He replied with "whatever".... I have never been spoken to so rudely by a person in the service industry. I'm literally appalled... And will never spend my money with them again, even to grab takeout, which is a shame because I enjoyed their food... But the manner in which this person spoke to me was uncalled for. There are a million better ways to handle a situation like this. ...
