My husband and I happened to stop for a late lunch at Angie's after a quick visit to the Farmer's Market. We were pleasantly greeted by a very kind and efficient server. We learned very quickly that Angies's had been opened maybe 6 months and as a classically trained chef, she sources fresh ingredients and makes all of her food from scratch. We love smoked salmon and ordered the smoked salmon dip as a starter to lunch because the server mentioned that the chef smokes her own salmon in house. It was delicious. I would venture to say that even if you think you don't care for salmon, you would love this dish. We then split the turkey, bacon and ranch flatbread and our only issue with this dish, was that while tasty, it was a little small for the price. We certainly worked through our lunch and came away satisfied and eager to return as there are several July dinner items and breakfast items that we are looking forward to trying. We met Angela on the way out, talked about her restaurant experiences and wished her well on her success. The atmosphere is a little sparse - could use some decorating / artwork on the walls to "warm it up" a bit, but Independence is very lucky to have this additional dining spot in town. Thank you for such a great initial experience!! We look forward to supporting you and your efforts - especially your homemade...
Read moreI've waited for months to review this place because it was brand new and I knew it would take a while to settle in. I really had high hopes for Angies. The food is tasty at times, but inconsistent. Small portions and freshness varies. Service is about the same, inconsistent as it can vary. As for the atmosphere , its quite clinical, lacks character and definitely not cozy. As for cost, the value is just not there. Small portions with an expensive price tag. I once paid $7 for 2 small stale donuts! On another occasion I tried the burger and it was very dry and very little taste. The mushroom soup was good but it was $6 for like 4oz at best. Not a place to grab a meal for under $10. I been to Angies a dozen times over the past 10 months and it has failed to impress. I wanted to like it because this town definitely lacks food options, but Angies seems like it's more geared towards tourists and out-of -town folks just passing through, certainly not the average local. I'll give it 3 stars because the food was decent at times and it's very clean. But the inconsistently, extremely high prices, and small portions are a big...
Read moreFirst time at Angie's. Enjoyed a delicious set 4 course Italian family style dinner there this past Wednesday. Handmade ravioli, white minestrone soup, veal marsala topped with a ricotta stuffed zucchini blossom and decadent lemon tiramisu for dessert. I was so impressed! My only issue is that the atmosphere doesn't reflect the quality & innovation of the food (I would love to get my hands on designing the interior). Chef Angie's culinary talents are a rare gem for a small town like Independence, Virginia. I sincerely hope that excellence of this scale does not go unappreciated by locals. As for myself, I plan to become an Angie's Sip &...
