El Cerro Grande — Restaurant in Independence

I have eaten here a ton of times because I live nearby and I am a huge supporter of small businesses and really want to see them thrive….but I won’t be back and that makes me sad. The food is good but the prices are just way too high. I understand a bump in price due to the economic crisis we’re in right now but $2.49 for a drizzle of sour cream and a $1.99 for some shredded lettuce added to a burrito is quite crazy! Everyone else in my family ordered quesadillas which were $17/$18 a piece! That is just too high! Speaking of high, I’m pretty sure our server was high too! He disappeared! We didn’t see him for like 40 minutes! We thought he left. None of the other servers even thought to check on us. We saw several of them standing around talking. We kept making eye contact with them to get their attention. We almost walked out to go to the other Mexican restaurant down the road, which is also really good! We waited almost an hour for our food! I really don’t look at the prices when we eat at Mexican restaurants because they’re typically all the same but I was absolutely shocked when my $95 bill came to the table for 5 of us and no alcohol was even ordered at a Mexican restaurant!! If those prices are going to be charged then there should be top notch service...

The Staff here is very nice and friendly, I went there for my son’s Birthday and they we’re so nice to us I have nothing negative to say about the workers however as far as the food goes their Salsa that they give you in the beginning as your waiting on your food really had No flavor, like at all ! It wasn’t hot or spicy, it just tasted like well nothing lol not saying this to be mean or anything I’m just giving my honest review aside from that the rest of their food was alright, my son didn’t seem to care for their chicken fingers but he liked their fries, they kinda remind you of the fries McDonalds has but all in all the staff is really what made our visit worth it. Haven’t ate inside but I went inside to order me a huge order of salsa and chips I’ve been craving and WOWZERS!!! Def a must! So yummy. The lady at the front who rang me up was so sweet. She even gave me extra salsa! She said they make their salsa fresh 4-5 daily! And the chips are made fresh too, which is super nice because they always come out super warm!! I love that the salsa is super thin and it does have a little kick to it but not too bad. I’m one that can’t take hott stuff so if I can handle it… anyone can! I ate every serving of salsa by myself within three days and do I feel guilty about it? NOPE! 😆❤️ I’m not a huge Mexican food lover but I absolutely love salsa so this will definitely not be my last time ordering salsa from them! It may come a weekly tradition honestly.
