Having been to the El Taco Torro at 42nd and Franklin, as well as the one at 79th and Michigan, which were both underwhelming, I was pleasantly surprised by this location. First of all, the space is brand new and very well decorated. It's not your typical taqueria in that regard. It's a very modern, clean, and inviting space.
The food is very good. I typically just indulge in taqueria staples (tacos, burritos, tortas, etc), but they have a more expansive menu. It's a bit pricey for taqueria fare, but everything was fresh and very well prepared. Portions were sufficient.
The people working there are all very friendly. Every time I've visited there's been at least one person fully fluent in English, and the rest seem to know enough to where it's not an issue. A little bit of basic Spanish would be helpful, but is by no means necessary.
I'll also say I really enjoy the attached grocery. It's not very big, but it's well stocked and prices are good. Produce is usually cheaper and better quality than you'd find in American groceries. They have a well stocked meat counter, with lots of options you won't find at Kroger. The cashiers are usually bilingual, although you may need some Spanish to order at the meat counter. I try to go during times when I think it won't be busy, just because it can be a bit intimidating when it's busy, with everyone else speaking another language.
I really hope both of these places succeed. The location has me a bit skeptical, but they're great additions to a part of town that could...
Read moreWe went last night for the first time just after 8pm, they closed at 9 pm so I’m hoping that was the problem but we were the only one ordering food at the time. We ordered 3 steak tacos, 3 shrimp tacos, 4 chicken tacos, a shrimp chimichanga platter and a guacamole. We spent over $60 and everything was just a NO, I was soooo disappointed in my chimichanga that had nasty refried beans, cut up pieces of shrimp, rice with corn and veggies in it, lettuce and cheese all fried in it, it was the worst I have ever had in my 47 years and I am a foodie. My family did not enjoy ANY of the tacos!!!! The guacamole was the only thing good however it was very spicy and the chips with it was garbage. I hate to leave bad reviews but our dinner was absolutely horrible, I wish I had took pictures before I throw it in the trash. I will not be trying...
Read moreIf you don't speak Spanish you might want to bring someone who does, they dont seem to have tenuous grasp on the English language yet.
Their tacos are good.. BUT
Ordering is like pulling teeth,..
their service has progressively worsened each visit.
I unfortunately asked them "whats that veggie?" that looked like raddish, they always add, So to tell them not to add it.
they told me it was cucumber
I ended up with both radish and cucumbers 😑
prior to today.. every taco I've purchased was $3.50 even the shrimp and steak tacos together...
Today I ended up paying $4.50
If u ask me She charged me more because she had to REPUNCH the order in the computer.. which was who's fault?
Hire someone bilingual to take orders is my suggestion.
I've given up.. the tacos ain't that good to be going through all...
