I went with the tacos asada for my first visit here. Ordering on the phone was very easy, despite some saying it may not be for non-Spanish speakers. No problems there.
The tacos themselves closely resemble what's become the standard definition of an "authentic" Mexican taco over the last decade or so - a seemingly generous amount of taco meat piled into 2 incredibly small corn tortillas, then topped with onion and cilantro.
The overwhelming taste of these tacos was that of old oil and burnt corn, both courtesy of the tortillas, I believe. It's hard to describe, but something I've never tasted at any other Mexican restaurant. The taco sauces helped somewhat, but if you need taco sauce to mask the taste of your tacos, that's a hard pass from me.
The steak itself seemed low quality and didn't have much in the way of flavor at all. It was light brown, almost gray in color, like it was cooked on low heat and pulled off barely past the browning stage. The best asada always has a deep brown color (i.e. a slight char/Maillard reaction from high heat) and retains its juices. There was none of that here.
I wanted to like this place, I really did. But like a lot of the other new-ish Mexican spots that have popped up post-pandemic, the rating you see on Google is highly inflated.
Food gets 2 stars, which might even be a tad generous. But I'll include the good service and ease of ordering for the final 3...
