Update: previously rated 5 stars across the board but in all fairness to all that desire to constitute a pleasurable experience as a patron I must in good conscious edit this for those that need to beware..
Do Not go to the bar at night, they will scam you… No wonder the bar was empty. With just one small group.
I am a successful entrepreneur, retired 48 yr old, and went here for a second time (for management it was the evening of June 12th) so you can see who was working.. This time my grl didn’t want to eat out but loved the food the previous visit so we took an uber to have a drink at the bar while we waited for our take out food, since THEY DO NOT ALLOW TAKE OUT ORDERS OVER THE PHONE.. i get it, maybe they have had a lot of dead orders.. So here i am paying an uber to go and also asking for drinks while we wait for a take out. And I ask for a double shot of tequila. When the glass presented was less than a finger depth, I knew as a mature adult lol, it wasn’t a double. I waited as the bar tender ignored me, asked politely if she had poured me a single or a double and she dismissed me and said that’s a double and walked away.. wow… when I asked her to bring me a shot glass, so I could pour it in and show her she made me wait ten minutes, and when she did, she brought her lil shot measuring bar tool , which she claimed to be 2 oz, tried to tell me two ounces is a double… ( To anyone still reading, please google what a shot is volume wise, 1.5-2 oz ) and in all my years, when purchasing straight shots and saving bars money in the mixes and other ingredients they always lean to the 2 ounce mark.
When I disagreed, her tone changed to hostile and her male bartender coworker immediately defended her. How is it that if you are dining in, and a drink is not “good” they immediately accommodate and remove the drink from the bill, but when you let your night bar tenders be in charge, they are KICKING PATRONS OUT?!?!?!! What happened to the customer is always right. Whoever is the night manager at this place obviously does not have their employees under a positive energy. I DO NOT RECOMMEND VISITING THIS BAR area of the restaurant AT NIGHT.. They will over charge and under serve you. That was my experience. And yes I spent over $100 bucks at the square grouper down the street the same night.. These bar “tenders” sent their business elsewhere, and I know it’s not the first time.. I’m a passive being, living through light and love but I don’t take shyt..
Otherwise on a day visit: This place is awesome! The food is top notch, fresh , perfectly made, and delicious. We had several appetizers and drinks were good too. Staff was very attentive without making you feel like they are pushing you out.
To the owners or management, feel free to contact me, I was a business analyst, and implementation engineer for many years, I’d be glad to consult with you for free. Your establishment is top notch, there is no reason for volatile employees to...

We had two dinners here during our most recent ten day trip to the keys. The first dinner was good enough we decided to go back, but the second experience was bad enough that we’ll likely never go back.
The service at both dinners was quite poor. At our first dinner, the service was at least prompt and attentive, but the waitress (who we saw again waiting tables at our second dinner) was frankly off-putting. Not once did she even fake a smile to anyone she engaged with at any table. I’ve never seen anything quite like it. It was like she was being put out. Mind you we ordered about $250 worth of food and drinks for our table of 4, so she knew she’d be getting a monster tip. But apparently it was too much to ask that she be polite and even feign pleasantries. The second waitress rarely showed up to our table, and she wasn’t any more pleasant when she did.
The second meal took hours once we finally got seated, and it almost felt like we were being punished. They first seated us outside but it was quite chilly that evening and my daughter wanted to move inside. So they moved us to what is probably the worst located single table in dining history. The table (which other reviewers have commented on, which I thought was silly till we were seated there) is quite literally all by itself. On one side of the table is the hall to the bathrooms with the never-ending stream of guests and employees coming back and forth from the toilet; on the second side is the door to the kitchen, with a never-ending stream of employees coming in and out of the kitchen; on the third side is the raw bar, with a never-ending stream of employees coming to and from delivering raw orders to tables; and on the fourth side is another bar/prep area with a never-ending stream of employees coming back and forth from the kitchen and or raw bar. It’s insane that they would seat anyone here. All of these people are passing not more than arms length from your table and in the 15 minutes we were sitting there not ten seconds went by when someone wasn’t passing us. It’s really hard to describe how bad of a location it is for a table, but if you go I would specify “not that table.”
Since my anxiety physically wouldn’t permit me to stay in that location, we decided to wait for a different table. Upon being reseated outside, we found out the entire deck had been enclosed with plastic windguards (something that, had it been done when we were first seated out there, would have prevented the whole seating mess).
Our food on this second visit was just very mediocre, which was surprising since we had enjoyed it so much the first night. Being that hit and miss in just two visits makes it unlikely we’ll return given we spent nearly $600 in two trips...
Read moreWe had to move beachside tables multiple times because of how smokers were sitting there lighting up while everyone was eating. I’m deathly allergic to cigarettes, lose my voice instantly, and hack a lung any time I have to share air with smokers. I finally had to leave and my husband had to her the food to go because it was happening every other minute without a break from any smokers within 5 feet of me.
We ate out of to good containers at the little public seating area nearby. Lots of people were walking by but none were smoking near us so I could eat without being on the verge of crisis.
I had what the waiter recommended, hog fish. It was good, filling, and it was 2 big pieces of fish because I ordered it without bread. The sauce was DELICIOUS! We think it was mango habanero sauce. It made the meal. He also had fish and his sandwich with fries portions were large as well.
Unfortunately, my husband forgot to get my debit card and in all the scary cigarette commotion neither of us thought about the card - until we were at the airport customs checkpoint in Miami that evening and I realized I didn’t have my card!!!! The waiter probably didn’t notice that we went over 20 feet away and ate for 20 minutes and he probably thought we took thr to go containers elsewhere to eat the food, but we were only stopped to have lunch by the clear water on our way back to the airport. It wasn’t the waiter’s fault though. It is just something that happened.
I had to spend about 2 hours on the phone with my bank at the airport canceling the card, and trying to set up digital wallet from my iPhone without having a card, which was difficult. We finally got it all set up on my second call to the bank. We had to use digital wallet that night (we missed out on eating dinner that evening) for everything they would accept it for a week til the new card came in yesterday. It bit because not every place accepts digital wallet and that was where all the money was.
So… Islamorada is the spot where the water is the clearest in the Florida Keys. There’s a few places nearby and lots of resorts, but it’s more like being on a tiny island than being on an American vacation. There are LOTS of sightseeing opportunities, especially if you have a boat or rent one.
This particular spot has a gorgeous view of the ocean on the eastern side of the Keys. There’s a tiny private island that’s a private residence with a tiny resort on it that we looked at and talked about while sitting there eating lunch.
It’s a lovely spot that is the closest to the clear Caribbean style ocean water as we got in all of the Keys. It’s also a great place to stop and get...
