My wife and I are motorcyclists and enjoy finding interesting restaurants to ride to for lunch or dinner. This afternoon, our choice was Los Hermanos. It wasn't a long ride for us, only about 110 miles, round trip.
We entered the restaurant, were greeted by our waiter, and seated right away. He gave us menus and took our drink order, giving us time to look over the menu. Looking around, the restaurant is not overly large, consisting of two moderately sized rooms. There's also outside dining if one prefers that. The dining area was well organized, very clean and neat, with a combination of booths and tables.
The menu was fairly large, offering a variety of Mexican dishes one would expect to find in a restaurant of this type. I chose one of the burrito selections, while Patty selected a shrimp taco salad.
Our drinks were brought, along with a basket of chips and a bottle of salsa. The salsa was tangy without being spicy/hot. The nacho chips were crisp, fresh and tasty. I might have preferred that they be a little more salty, but that's just a personal preference and not to be counted against the restaurant.
Our meals soon arrived. The presentation was perfect, with both dishes looking delicious. When ordering, I had made some minor alterations to my meal. So often, small details like this slip through the cracks of a lessor restaurant, but not here. I got exactly what I ordered.
Our meals were excellent. Perfectly prepared and presented, they were very tasty, filling, and satisfying. Our waiter returned several times, checking to make certain that our food was satisfactory and that our drinks were filled. Frankly, we rarely encounter such attentive service.
The meal over, we received our bill, which I felt was very reasonable, especially considering how good the food was. All in all, we recommend Los Hermanos highly - five stars (not something we do very often), and they deserve every one. There was not a single thing either of us could find to criticize. Patty and I eat out a lot, and we know "good" when we see it. So, give Los Hermanos a try. You...
Read moreI have traveled the world (39 countries and 44 States), am a good cook myself, and I do not give many restaurants 5 stars but this one I think deserves it. For a local family restaurant the service was exceptional, the food had good flavor and a good variety to offer, atmosphere was nice (could be improved but not required -- more authentic this way). The prices were reasonable and fair with good size portions.
We were promptly greeted at the door and seated and our server brought us traditonal chips and salss and took and drink order. He advised us of the daily lunch specials and inquired if we had anything special we liked. He quickly made a few suggestions he thought we might like . Ultimately we chose two of them ... a Fajita combination with Beef, Chicken, and Pineapple (left off shrimp due to my allergies) and a Chimichanga special with mix of shredded chicken and shredded Beef. Both dishes lived up to his description and the cheese sauce on the Chimi was wonderful. Both my wife and I got a "To-Go Box" so we could save room for Dessert (the server even boxed it for us). The Fried Ice cream dessert was served in a Crispy cinnamon tortilla shell bowl ... best I have had in about 10 years.
Throughout the meal our server and /or the manager would periodically check to make sure we were doing OK and if we needed anything ... but doing so without being a pest. Great job.
Special thanks -- I was happy to see the staff following the mask guidelines and thinking about the safety of their customers. So many local restaurants are not right...
Read moreA great little mexican restaurant in downtown Ithaca. It is only 4 or 5 minutes away from 127, parking in front or back. Very large menu and pleasant staff. Small patio out front.
We visited on a Sunday at 11:30, and while the restaurant is not open during typical breakfast hours, they have a few choices on the menu. I ordered the Mexican Skillet (see picture, and I asked for the eggs to be very well done if you're wondering why they're brown), which has 3 eggs, cheese, ham, potatoes, tomatoes and jalapeños. It was not served in a Skillet, but was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The waiter even taught me how to ask for my eggs to be cooked "well done" in spanish.
They do serve alcohol. Portions large and reasonably priced. We also spoke with an owner or manager who checked in with us. Definitely the kind of place that wants you to be happy with your food. By noon the place was filling up, the table next to us got a huge platter of sizzling fajitas that smelled amazing.
