We have eaten at Pickett House several times. The last two times have been less than satisfactory. We come from Houston to take my dad from Livingston there to eat. Father's Day, 2023, we received chicken not fully cooked. I assumed that you were so busy you couldn't cook fast enough. Lesson learned. Father's Day, 2024, you were busy but not as many waiting as previously. The chicken was good, but the sides were not so good. Tasted much like canned vegetables and gravy, something we can easily serve at home. Our greatest complaint was about the service. Our waiter was attentive but very busy. We had a table of 9 and were originally served one platter of chicken, one small bowl of potatoes w/ gravy (should have been served separately as not everyone wanted gravy), a bowl of greens, chicken and dumplings (which no one seemed to like) and a basket of biscuits. With a table of nine, there wasn't even enough to go around the table one time. When we asked for more, they served a bowl of potatoes in a bowl the size of a cereal bowl, and when we asked for more chicken and biscuits, the waiter asked how many of each. I don't think when you eat in an all-you-can-eat restaurant that you should have to count each serving. We spent $145.91 plus tax and tip. Not a very nice Father's Day meal for the patriarch of our family to celebrate with loved ones. I think the family style meal is a plus for your restaurant, but you can't skimp on servings. I know you don't want to have wasted food, but that is a hazard of family style serving. I'm so sorry that this will not be a place for us to come in the future, but I felt like you needed to know this in order to improve your food...

I LOVE The Pickett House Resturant! The fried chicken is the best I've eaten so far. The food is absolutely delicious. You pay when you walk in. I have to admit I was kind of disappointed when I realized there wasn't a menu but now I love it because it saves me from having to figure out what to eat. The Pickett House Restaurant harkens back to a time when little eateries would write the meal of the day on a chalkboard. What was written on the chalkboard was what would be served that day. The waitresses even wear little pioneer dresses. The seating arrangement is different and can be a bit of a shock for a first-time visitor. Diners eat on trussel tables (long picnic tables), so don't be surprised if a stranger sits down next to you and starts eating. Especially if they're really busy. I'm not big on sweets but I love their peach cobbler. Usually, when I eat cobbler I eat it with ice cream, but their peach cobbler is so good It doesn't need ice cream. The one thing I would change would be the lack of variety in what they serve. It would nice if they served home-made meatloaf sometimes just for a change, but I would definitely recommend The Pickett House Restaurant to anyone visiting or passing through Woodville, TX. This quaint, country gem is certainly worth a visit. You'll be glad...

Excellent food, great service, cute place! I highly recommend. We were passing through and found this place for lunch and it was a delicious, unique experience. There is only one meal: Fried chicken - some of the best I've ever eaten Green beans - definitely the best I've ever eaten Chicken and dumplings - I've never liked these, but as far as they go, those were good Biscuits and cornbread - like Cracker Barrell, but somehow even better Mashed potatoes with brown gravy - so good Collard greens - not a huge fan, but they were good enough that if I had enough room, I'd eat them all Peach cobbler - one of the best I've ever eaten You pay when you come in, get your drink and silverware, and sit down. The drink choices are sweet and unsweetened tea, and lemonade, and water. The tea was excellent as well - just strong enough. I'm picky about tea, but it was the right sweetness level as well. You sit down and they bring the food to you on a cart. Another important fact: this delicious meal is ALL YOU CAN EAT!!! So the only limit to this delicious dinner is the size of your stomach, which unfortunately, meant for us that it ended a lot faster than I wished. If you are able to eat...

We went here as a couple on a Tuesday, arriving shortly after 11am. There were two other couples there, otherwise the place was empty. While we were there, they seated a large tour group in the party room. The staff behind the counter and our server were excellent and welcoming. The vintage circus poster decor was very interesting. However, the food, as a whole, left something to be desired. The fried chicken, was good, hot and fresh, but certainly not the best I had ever had. The sides were just ok, but lacked much flavor. The Lima beans were under-cooked and hard. The slaw was basically shredded cabbage without any flavor. The chicken and “dumplings” was basically chicken and noodles. The “fresh” rolls and cornbread were hard and dry. For the finish, we had high hopes for the homemade peach cobbler. One serving was just ok, and the other serving was terrible, sour and without any taste. We didn’t go away hungry, as we had plenty of the fried chicken, but left a bit disappointed in the overall food quality…definitely not living up to all the hype.

Just the best fried chicken ever! We live about an hour and a half from this place, yet we have lunch here about once a month. It’s worth the drive! The food and service is consistently excellent. The food (fried chicken! That’s it!) is served boarding house style. You go to the cashier, order, pay and get your own drinks and silverware. Tables are long with bench seats. Almost immediately after sitting, a cart will arrive with your chicken and sides. Beans, chicken & dumplings, mashed potatoes & gravy, and biscuits. Plus you can have coleslaw, pickled beets, and jalapeños at no additional cost. It’s all you can eat, and includes peach cobbler for dessert! When you’re finished you take all your plates up to the window where the kitchen will retrieve them. The interior is super cute, with a fabulous collection of vintage circus posters. The place is on the grounds of a recreated turn of the century lumber town, with a museum and hiking trails.
