I have been living in Jackson for 20 years. I have never been to the Jackson Diner before so I decided to take my wife out for breakfast there. As we first walked into the diner it seemed very nice with all that 50's type deco.. We were seated as soon as we walked in the door, which was nice. My wife ordered Pork Roll Egg and cheese on a bagel and I ordered 2 eggs over medium with sausage and home fries with rye toast well done but not burnt. I asked the waterless if the home fries has onions in it. she said yes it does and I said great! Our order came quite quickly, as the waitress delivered our food my wife's meal looked good, but my breakfast was not like anything I've ever seen or ordered from a diner... the eggs look great the sausage looked great the toast was very lightly toasted or should I say it was more like it was warmed.. now the thing that really thru me off the edge was the home fries. all I could see was raw to warmed chopped onions completely covering the home fries... at first I did not see any home fries at all but just the chopped onions. Really??? who has a brain in the Jackson diner? Again.. I asked the waitress IF there was onions in the home fries not to cover the home fries completely with raw onions... Needless to say I will never be going to the Jackson diner again but I will tell everyone I know in town to never go there.... I am shocked that the waitress would serve something like that to a customer. I am not the kind of person who complains about a food order to a waitress and have it sent back to the cook... I think you know where I am going with that one. So I just suck it up and never go to that place again. If you live in Jackson please save your self the trouble of going there. I know your choices of dining IN Jackson is limited but I would rather drive the distance and wait in line than to be served food like that. The check came to $18 and change and I would like you to know that I left the remaining dollar and change from the 20 dollar bill that I paid to the cashier for a tip to the waitress. Oh by the way when I paid the bill the cashier never asked me how my meal was... If you have ever had a bad meal from a diner you must...
Read moreThis is my latest haunt for breakfast. I still prefer Amyâs Omelette House, but this place is closer to Toms River. Food here is real good, especially the corned beef hash and country fried steak. So despite some short comings itâs worth a visit. Food vs Value my only advice is that you should avoid the sausage links which, although they taste great, like some other diners around NJ Iâve noticed the sausages we used to get which were each about 4â long are now only 2.5â long which would be fine if they gave you 3 links, but no, youâre still just getting 2 links which really equals a link and a quarter. Shrinkage! As for the Service...the wait staff is always friendly, but also always makes you feel a bit rushed. For example youâll be seated with a menu and someone will be on you in under a minute to ask if youâre ready to order. And follow ups every 3 minutes to ask how youâre doing or offer to top off your coffee. Personally I donât like that. I donât mind it once or twice during my time there, but not every few minutes. Let us enjoy our meal and our conversation, weâll call you over if needed :). As for the decor, itâs got some great custom wall art, and an array of booths and tables and a long counter with stools so all in all itâs appealing. Drawbacks include a TV display on the back right side that has been broken for quite some time and the owners seem content to leave it that way rather than replacing it. And the booth beneath it is terrible because the staff comes in & out of the kitchen there. Thereâs a workstation where servers stand overlooking you and if youâre in the booth looking towards the rear all you can see besides your company is the broken tv, the wall and the staff coming out of the kitchen. Despite the nitpicking the place is still a great diner to eat at. Hopefully the owners will address the issues above and then I can probably bump it up to 5 stars? A...
Read moreBreakfast was pretty good this Sunday morning and our waitress was sweet and accommodating so we made sure to leave 20% for her. But beware the blonde waitress who told me she's a grandma. Her kids when 1 year old would never play with or drop condiments on a restaurant floor, she said. Apparently this stranger to my family who was not our waitress is comfortable dramatically interrupting a meal after seeing artificial sweetener packets and little syrup containers under a toddler's high chair. I apologized and we said we would pick them up but she was clearly dismayed at the travesty. After we were done, we picked up our mess, stacked the plates and cleaned up the table. As I paid her I said to add $1 to the bill for the condiments but she declined. She pointed out the principle. I said we cleaned it up. She implied it's the waste, I said charge me the $1. I asked if she had kids and she said yes and she's a grandma and she'd never let them do that. I said I'm a grandpa too. As I left the diner, she said "ridiculous." I wonder if I walked up to her and her grandkid on the street and corrected something her toddler did after it happened (since the condiments were already on the dirty floor) that she would kindly accept the criticism from a stranger. đ đ The $1 at issue is hardly worth starting a confrontation with a customer. And I offered to pay it. We cleaned up the mess plus made the dishes easy for the staff. Toddlers are not automatons you can control 100%. Kids make messes. If he wants to play with some packets, no stranger should interrupt and try to impose their nebulous "principle" that is not based on cost or a mess or some harm to them. I realize her server experience has probably resulted in an uptight, rule-bound dining experience for her kids and grandkids but don't try to impose that on strangers. We will never return...
