As an avid fan of Memphis/North Carolina/Texas BBQ who also BBQs at home, I have been trying to find the right words for this establishment. I'm not a chef at all, so please take my words with a grain of salt.
First of all, I am so happy to hear that people have been liking the food here. I love seeing small businesses succeed, especially locally. The customer service here is incredible. Everyone is extremely kind and will answer any questions. I truly want this place to be successful, which is why I want to give my honest opinion.
Let's cut to the chase, do not expect truly authentic BBQ here. There are only 4 meats to choose from: 3 types of "pulled" meat (chicken/pork/beef), and smoked kielbasa. That's it.
I was so excited to try some smoked brisket, ribs, chicken thighs, pork belly, maybe wings too. None of that is available. It makes me question if anything is actually smoked here.
Other items on the menu remind me moreso of finger foods rather than BBQ, like the bacon wrapped meatballs or the bacon wrapped jalapenos. I didn't order those mainly because I could just make those at home.
I ordered the EVO burrito, which was filling, but the meat was dry. I had to resort to using BBQ sauce to moisten the meat.
As for the sides, I can only speak for the baked beans, which I ate at one of the tables in the back, then 5 minutes later I see someone throwing away a Bush's baked beans cardboard box in the dumpster. That was disappointing.
I didn't order any ice cream due to the fact that it wasn't homemade. But I have heard that it is sourced from a very reputable establishment.
The atmosphere is pretty cool. I'm not a motorcycle guy, but the aesthetic is still pretty interesting and not over the top cheesy.
All in all, I would not bring my friends from the south here when they visit, because I'm positive they'll be disappointed. Simply taking the family out for something different for lunch/dinner? For sure, just don't expect to have your...
Read moreFirst time at sidehack ordering the four meat and two side take out for about 24$. I picked the pulled pork, chicken and double of the brisket with a side of Mac and cheese and southwest corn. The brisket was my favorite, perfect tenderness, tackey flavorful bark and tons of flavor was a 9/10 for me, would absolutely come back for more. The chicken was nice and chopped, not as much smoke flavor as I was looking for, maybe a 7/10 for me, and the pulled pork was not my taste, a bit wet and no smoke flavor, I also prefer my pulled pork to not be as pulled and stringy which might be impacting my review here, 6/10 for me. The barbecue was nice, a bit on the thin and sweeter side but very nice 7.5/10. The sides were incredible, Mac and cheese was great, not soggy but lots of cheese flavor, needed a touch more salt but it was a 9/10 and the southwest corn was amazing and probably my favorite next to the brisket, tons of flavor, 9.5/10.
Awesome value for all the food you get, the 4 meat two side was plenty for my wife and I with left overs. Will absolutely go back for brisket and corn and to try some pies. Would...
Read moreDriving back from my Daughter’s soccer camp, we decided to drop into Side Hack. I had a nice helping of pulled pork, side of baked beans with bacon, and mac-n cheese. I cannot comment on the Mac-n-cheese but based on the death stare I got from my 11-yr old daughter when I asked if I could try some, I assume it was good! The pork and beans (I chose the spicy BBQ sauce) were great! The owner welcomed us to his establishment and even cooked our food himself 25 minutes AFTER the kitchen was closed (we did not know the kitchen was closed until we looked at their website AFTER eating!!)
Staff were super friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant and inviting. While we waited for our food, (2) families came in with their kids and got sugared-up with icecream.
To top it all off, my meal (which also fed my daughter) was just over $13 - I cannot feed MYSELF for $13 at that “Golden Arch” place!!.
Highly...
