Pappy’s Q is the perfect example of a hidden gem. From your first steps into the establishment you get that hometown, mom & pop vibe. You order at the counter, as opposed to having a waiter. This lax service really allows you to enjoy your experience at your own pace, especially once the food arrives. Speaking of food, hence the name, Pappy knows his BBQ! The ribs are perfectly tender, painted w/ just the right amount of sweet & smokey glaze. Wings are smoked instead of fried, which offers a greater depth of flavor & a fall off the bone texture. The alligator bites are packed w/ flavor, they don’t need a drop of sauce & we all know any good BBQ place is only as good as their corn bread & you’ll find some of the best at Pappy’s. I know all of that sounds good, but let me convince you further w/ 4 words; deep fried banana pudding. Yes, it is as good as it sounds & fried to perfection. If the food wasn’t good enough, you become acutely aware of the care that this team has for their customers. Our group felt very welcome, Pappy himself checking how the food was as first time visitors. I can't believe I never seen this place. I'm at rutters every morning before work and go to the pizza place there every Friday. I looked up today and read the sign and decided to get online and see what they had to offer. I got myself the shrimp platter with Mac and cheese and cowboy beans. And I got an order of alligator bites and ordered a diet Pepsi to wash it down with. The shrimp was pretty good. The rice was amazing. Mac and cheese was good. Could use a little more cheese, but I love cheese. So it might be enough for most people. Lol. The beans were delicious. Everything was still hot when I got home. The kids even liked the gator. So many things I still want to try there. I told my son I'll be ordering there when they all get pizza on Fridays. Haha. The only thing I didn't get was my soda. I do not think it was intentional, though. I thought it was in the bag. When I got home, it was not in the bag. I just ordered more food than my belly could hold. I was ready to fully support this business, but my first visit I was served raw alligator. I was told they ran out of thawed gator and had to use frozen. I don't know how they thought that was a good idea, I could have gotten very sick. I got a cheaper sandwich as a replacement, but was not refunded the difference. The chips served with were all crumbs smaller than a corn kernel. A very big let down... I'm only giving a 2nd star because they seem involved in the community.
