My partner has Celiac disease, so when she saw multiple people on the Gluten Free Pittsburgh Facebook page vouch that 1888 had gluten free deep fried Oreos and funnel cake, we had to try it out.
When I tell you she was tearing up when she took that first bite of deep fried Oreo, the first she'd had in over 10 years, it's not even a slight exaggeration. She also said their pizza might be the best she's ever had, not just gluten free...even of the pizzas she had before knowing she had Celiac.
In total, we ordered crispy cajun chicken sandwiches (one with fries, one with chips, both with beer cheese), a pizza, mac and cheese, funnel cake, and deep fried oreos. Everything was wonderful. The service was amazing, and the servers we met are both incredibly sweet and very personable. I feel like we're on the verge of making friends with both of them.
The best part is, other than feeling generally sluggish from the sheer amount of food we ordered and ate, my partner felt 100% fine after eating everything. She is very sensitive to gluten, and there was zero cross-contamination.
I cannot recommend 1888 Bites and Pints enough. Even though it's a half hour drive from us, we will be regulars. Go check...
Read moreToo bad I have to give this place any stars because I would actually give zero stars. The inside was remodeled well and a nice atmosphere but the rest of the experience was horrible. My husband and I each had a beer and ordered the fried zucchini appetizer. It took 45 minutes to even get the appetizer to us while other tables whom had been seated after us were getting their meals already. Our waitress was too involved with another table nearby which just happened to be her friends. We had finished the zucchini and waited another 15 minutes before asking the waitress when our food was coming. Apparently they had lost our order in their system and hadn't started to make our food. Another girl came to our table to apologize fir the inconvenience and said it would be another 20 minutes to make the food. It had already been an hour and a half and we were fed up. We asked for the bill. They paid for our beers while we paid for the zucchini. We were offered a whopping 10 percent discount on our next visit. The waitress acted surprised when we said that we would not be coming back ever. The service was horrendous and we would not recommend this...
Read moreFirst time trying this place since I moved to Jeanette. Ordered for takeout. On the phone they said 30-45 minutes wait for a large pepperoni pizza, half dozen wings and mozzarella sticks. I get there 45 minutes after I ordered, and my order wasnât even started. I understand as it is a Saturday night, so I end up waiting another 20 minutes and am handed A order. I realized I got someone elseâs order when I got home. Called back and they said they would remake all the food and should be ready in 20 minutes. I get home with the correct order only this time I could tell it wasnât a fresh pizza. The pizza was cold and dry by the time I got home(I live 3 minutes away). The mozzarella sticks and wings were fresh, but the wings werenât tossed in any sauce. The wait for the correct order wouldâve been worth it, but the food we got just wasnât very good. The one thing that made up for this waste of time was they took care of my entire order. This place was disappointing and my family will not order...
