While flipping through the map looking for a breakfast place I came across 5800 North Cafe. Intrigued by the fact that its a very highly rated restaurant in a nearby area (4.9/5⭐️ over 30ish reviews), it made the choice fairly easy. Also, judging from the age of recent reviews here, as of April 6, 2025 the restaurant isn't much older than a month at this point. Right when I walked in I thought how cute the set up and layout was. Bright colors and an interesting and semi-open floor plan were easy to notice. We waited about 15 minutes for a table on a Sunday during brunch at 10:30. The waiting area was on the smaller side. While we dined we realized that we came in during the rush as tables began to clear out. Our server was Ruben, he was a nice young man, I gave him a couple choices and asked him to surprise me with a skillet. He chose the Corned Beef Hash Skillet. I think it's fair to say he chose the right one. The skillet was very large and filling. The CB hash was plentiful in the skillet, had a nice flavor, and as far as taste profile, it worked well with the other ingredients. The only thing I would like to mention for next time is that I should order the potatoes and CBH a little bit more well done so the skillet has more texture. Aside from this, very enjoyable. My girlfriend ordered the Fried Chicken and Biscuits. She said the chicken was delicious and enjoyed her dish. I tried a piece of the chicken and thought it had a nice authentic southern style taste. Which is generally what you should go for with that dish. So well done on that. Banana Coconut Pancakes were okay, they didn't have the bold taste I was expecting from banana cream, it was kind of mild, but very sweet. Unusual, but I'll point it out, the water brought to the table had a weird bitter taste to it. Maybe the glass wasnt fully rinsed from the dishwasher? I'm not sure what happened here.
Some other points to make here: We were able to pay the check via a QR code on the receipt. The bathroom was exceptionally clean and very recently redone. Primary parking is done in the lot north of the plaza on Milwaukee (old Produce World lot). Parking is also available but limited on both Milwaukee and Ardmore.
I enjoyed my visit to 5800 here, I would grade it in the vicinity of about 4.3 stars. I would return and make it a suggestion for...
Read moreOur first time here and we were extremely satisfied with everything. This has a bright and fresh atmosphere and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Our waitress was Sandee and she was wonderful. She took the time to get our order and made sure that everything we ordered was correct by reading it back to us, for one of the order was very specific for how it was wanted. She was very friendly and engaging with us in conversation to get to know us. I had the Barbacoa Chilaquiles and it was sensational, maybe the best I have ever had. A large serving and piping hot. I ate half and took the rest home. My wife had Creamy Nutella with Banana and Strawberry Crepes and loved it. Our friend had the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich and again another satisfied customer. All the portions were very ample and the price was reasonable. The staff was very attentive to refilling water, coffee or other beverages and any other needs. Now we were there around 10:30 AM and it wasn’t overly crowded but I feel the service would be the same even if it was. The only drawback that I could see about North Cafe would be parking on the weekend. In summation, this up an excellent restaurant with a warm and friendly staff and is well worth...
Read moreMy wife and I have been meaning to try this place out since it’s relatively new to our area. We took our 11 year old granddaughter this morning and it was a good decision to do so. I tend to avoid breakfast restaurants on Sunday mornings because they’re usually so busy but there was plenty of seating available in spite of the crowd already seated. Every staff member we passed on the way to our table greeted us and made us feel welcome. Our food came quickly after we ordered and everything was excellently prepared. My wife had Eggs Benedict, I had corned beef hash and eggs and my granddaughter had the Belgian waffles with mascarpone and berries which, besides looking really tasty was beautifully presented. The portions were very large so we all ended up taking some home for later.
This will definitely be a go-to place on our list...
