Back to the same as it was before, not good. Wont come again for a long time or, maybe to just try the bar menu items in a pinch. We have been back since reopening 4 times.
The food quality was seemingly up a notch after the new owners took over, now it's back to what it was before they closed last year. The carving station isn't too bad although they are a little skimpy on the portions (very very small), nor is the small soup/salad bar bad at all. About what you would expect for a buffet soup/salad bar and carving station. The rest of the food though was bad. Nothing had been stirred in a long long time, leaving the edges very dried out and the center missing. STIR YOUR FOOD! (reconstitute!)Furthermore, you are going to get people sick if you leave meat product to get cold never reaching the sides or bottom while burning , wasting what sits on the sides forever.
The desert station is very limited, the hygiene of the ice cream bar is questionable, and the cake placed out was frozen. One lady commented to a staff member who just shrugged her shoulders and walked away to do whatever it is she was doing.
Onto the staff. Upon reopening, I was happy with the new staff. Our first 2 or 3 visits, were during the ski season. They were busy and the new staff members were nice. Since then, we have visited a couple more times and notice the restaurant is rather empty and the staff are what was before the new owners took over. They seem less caring than they did before and they weren't very caring then either. This is our second visit whereas my wife had to bus our own table and flag down random staff members or our waitress to get us refills. Unacceptable to never visit your guests after you bring the drinks the first time. Either the current staff is running the kitchen , the buffet lines and waiting tables and far too busy to do everything - or they just stink at their jobs. Either way it needs corrected but, is a far cry from their bigger problem which is food quality. My wife did not permit me to leave the full tip as she did all the work.
The new bar looks good. Stone(or faux stone) U shaped bar, some flat screens from what I could see and about 8 guests in the bar on a sunday afternoon/evening. I may try a burger there but , aren't we all just sick of burgers? There's a great sportsbar in somerset that serves kickbutt burgers. I would likely just go there if I wanted a burger unless I didn't feel like traveling as far from 7S area. Still, I may try this place. Hoping they expand the menu just a bit. eventually though, I suspect this bar will be filled with just a few local bar flies and the food will be 100% frozen if it isn't already.
I don't think anyone likes to eat here. There are two sizable (for Pittsburgh) resorts and quite a number of homeowners in both of those areas less than 10 mins away that would love to eat here regularly if the food was of any quality. I'm fairly active in the area and talk to a number of people. The only people that recommend or go here and like it are older people that remember like it was many years ago however today their taste buds are shot.
We keep trying and hoping this place to be ok. It's quick in and out when you have two small kids and the options in the area are very limited. So it looks like at least for awhile for us, it's either 7S sporting clays foods, or drive into Somerset if we want to eat out.
To the owners: Focus on your food quality and staff. You got your bar, you fixed the place up a bit (although I hate the new tables), get the food quality right - then invest on updated the interior of the restaurant. I'd recommend 'sections' , not floor to wall but dividers to break the feel of it being a giant feeding trough. Id take a limited selection of food that taste good over a larger selection of mediocre to poor food anyday. If you give up, and want to sell...
Read moreI have to say me and my girlfriend decided to eat here this evening. And we were both very disappointed. First off the renovations were nice. The buffet looked nice so we decided to try it. 14.99 seemed a bit steep but there were alot of options. So went with it. The food was hardly even warm and some of it was cold, nearly everything was heavily made with carbs like potatoes and pasta, everything looked and tasted as though it wasn't changed all day or stirred. We accually proceeded to stir everything up hoping it would improve it but it was to far gone. Fresh food should have been brought out. They were carving beef turkey and ham all were luke warm and over cooked dry and flavorless. Deserts were dry and clearly not housemade. The salad bar wasn't terrible but a few items were clearly past their prime. I have been working in food service for 17 years and this is the worst meal I have ever had by far. The service was good and the server was tenitive and courteous when we were leaving we were asked how everything g was and we told the hostess the truth and she wasn't even fazed. She then said we are I the process of training new people and that's prob what happened no apology or anything. I will say this we definitely won't go back. This place has a rude awakening if they think they will make it very long with such problems in the...
Read moreMy wife remembers this place from her childhood, so we decided to go and see how it’s doing today…
…and it’s doing quite well, given how full the parking lot was and the almost 45-minute wait time for dinner. The wait wasn’t so bad, given the greeter kept us up to date on progress and the company we had with us.
Once we were sat, service was very apologetic for our wait and attentive to our order. Around the table we had an eclectic choice of appetizers from a massive pretzel to fried potato chips - both were very good. For the meals we enjoyed choices from ravioli to honey glazed chicken and pork, to a build-your-own-burger. No complaints around the table. They had a decent selection of craft brew, plenty of locale fare to pick from - a plus in my book. For desserts we enjoyed sharing their coconut cake and banana cream pies - delectably sweet and good.
Service was friendly and functional, though a bit slow at times. I will admit they were slammed this evening but the entire place was not open, there were areas of the locale, inside, that were closed. It also looked like they had a pretty good amount of wait staff, yet, the waits for refills were surprisingly longer than you would expect. Overall, not terrible, just...
