We do not recommend Jef Eatery and Cafe. New owners, new name (the location used to be Southern Scoops) and EVERYTHING has gone downhill ever since.
No clear direction on if you seat yourself or if you need to be seated. No one was friendly. The table was sticky and the condiments had not been refreshed. It took entirely too long for the waitress to come to the table (and they weren't busy) - apparently, she was late getting to work?
From there, we ordered our food and when she brought our drinks, which also took longer than it should have - we asked for our silverware (we had coffee and needed to stir the cream/sugar). She replied that our silverware would come out with our food. (insert a look of "Are you kidding me?" here) We explained we needed our silverware to stir our coffee. It then took her entirely too long to grab some silverware to deliver to our table. We also had to ask for refills throughout our meal.
Fast forward to the food. One of the orders we placed was for the "Country Scramble". Keep in mind the menu not only states it as a "scramble" but also shows a picture of a BOWL with various ingredients and cheese mixed in together with the scrambled eggs - you know, like all of the "scrambles" I've ever ordered at all other restaurants... The menu also offers a platter option - "two eggs any style, with choice of meat + toast or hash browns". Well - when the "Country Scramble" came to the table, - it was scrambled eggs, with a side of meat, and toast (no cheese either). SO IT'S LITERALLY THE SAME THING AS THE PLATTER.
We asked about this and asked for cheese (because we can mix the ingredients up ourselves if it's too much trouble for the restaurant to do so) - the waitress went to the back and returned to tell us that what we received was what we ordered. We tried to discuss further and she just looked at us like a deer in headlights and stuck with "what you received is what you ordered" bit. While she did bring some shredded cheese, the meal wasn't even hot enough to melt anything so we basically ate a lukewarm scrambled egg, now mixed with cold shredded cheese, and a meat + a side of lousy toast.
The other meals were just as lack luster in taste. I think the ONLY menu item remotely decent was the Western Omelette.
Needless to say - we will not be going back to this establishment.
I worked in the Restaurant industry for many years of my life and I can easily say this is a horrible excuse for a restaurant. If I could rate this place a 0...
Read moreWe had a terrible experience here. The place was so hot and muggy it was nearly unbearable. The menus were sticky. The condiments at the table were low. Admittedly, I take a lot of half n’ half in my coffee. The table had two. I was brought a very few more and told anymore and I would be charged for extra! What?! The male server also had a bit of an attitude about it. The orange juice had ice cubes which was okay, just strange. I ordered the vegetarian omelet that was made with cheddar cheese, one of two options-so I didn’t specify. It came out with American. The biscuit was hard and dry. The hash browns were overcooked, the omelet was tasteless. Everything took entirely too long-being greeted at table, getting and bringing drinks, bringing food out. We were not checked on after food landed on the table. We ate as fast as we could so we could get out of there. The female employee was nice and I liked the oldies they were playing. Otherwise our Father’s Day...
Read moreAs a previous customer of Southern Scoops- and I’m not a local. I can say the experience was very different. Not as warm or welcoming. Being from a bigger city the small town vibe has attracted me to this city; and I feel the change in ownership of this company has some shoes to fill, but it’s doable. It looks very clean. They’ve rearranged a bit. The atmosphere is off and it feels very cold. Again, I think in time it can become better. I was hungry, but looking back at the kitchen it just didn’t serve my appetite.the kitchen was clean!!! It just didn’t looked cooked in and that matters to me. Again, I’m from a larger city, so the kitchen is the heart of a restaurant. My son wanted to order a hot chocolate but the machine didn’t work accurately so he didn’t get that. We ended up just leaving. The food might be delicious, but in a small town like this I enjoy the hospitality as much as the food and it didn’t...
