McCarry's Dairyland — Restaurant in Jerseyville

McCarrys has drive up and walk up service. They have Only 8 frozen yogurt which is advertised as heart healthy. They do not have non dairy which is a bummer. They offer a large variety of ice cream and snacks. Their ice cream is great. Don’t know why but it is absolutely delicious. My favorites are chocolate ice cream or shake but the turtle sundae is nothing to ignore. Their crushed ice is legendary. Their soda is the best. My favorite with the soda is a burrito. The burrito is a frozen one that is heated in a toaster oven and placed over in aluminum foil. Only once was it cold on the inside. I reported it but think it was an unusual situation. I’ve often wished they’d give sour cream and salsa with it. Another great snack option is a soft pretzel which can come with nacho cheese. Their nachos, plain and loaded are good. All of these blend well with aforementioned crushed ice large cokes. When I want to be slightly healthier I order the chicken salad with lettuce and ice water which the crushed ice makes great. The only downside is their goodness is understood by many so there’s always a long line for drive up. Often walk up is better, but on a late warm summer night just stand in line and visit friends. I have been going here for 30years but I won't ever again after tonight.

I went to order a cup of ice cream with strawberries as a topping and they tried to up charge me to a Sunday. I didn't order a Sunday nor did I want one.

A cup of plain vanilla was $2. They tried to charge me $2.89 just to add strawberries. I asked them what they charge for a topping and they said $.35. How does $2 go to $2.89 with just 1 topping, it don't.

I asked to see the manager and she said they ring that up as Sunday. I didn't ask for whipped topping or a cherry. So I OBVIOUSLY didn't ask for a Sunday.

The manager said it was HER establishment and that is what they do. So I said, oh so you own it but she said no. So I guess she just likes making people think it is hers and don't care if they run off long time customers.

If I owned the place, I would NEVER stand up for an EMPLOYEE talking to a customer that way. She was getting I rate and trying to force an ice cream on me I didn't want. I know Covid is hard times but that is just Stupid.

The smores glacier was a little disappointing. It was mostly vanilla ice cream with a little bit of chocolate towards the bottom, crushed graham crackers, and stale mini marshmellows. When i ordered, i expected there to be chocolate chunks of some sort or actual chocolate ice cream and marshmellow fluff. The texture with the marshmellows was very weird and it looked like they put chocolate syrup at the bottom of the cup and tried to blend it. Service...
