We live about 180 miles from John Day but I can assure you this is our "go to" coffee place whenever we're passing through. They make fresh breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches and have lovely fresh-baked (yes, from scratch) pastries. There is usually a pot of homemade soup simmering and a beautiful, fresh salad bar. To top it all off the coffee is wonderful. My husband likes his dark and he is always pleased. The owner is very sweet, friendly, and makes rounds often to be sure everything is good. The staff pay close attention to details when taking our order. They always get it right the first time even with several changes. The rustic, western-barn style decor creates a down-to-earth pleasantly comfortable atmosphere. The restrooms are always kept very clean and have a tasteful decor matching the rustic cafe.
