Today we met up with our friends. We arranged to be there at around 6:15 p.m. They arrived shortly before that and were already seated at the table. From that point on, the waiter—who was bald and wore glasses—was very rude to them.
We then ordered our food. My big piece of tuna was not completely warm and a little cold inside and not fully cooked even though i ordered differently. After our meal and a few wines, we all ordered dessert. My husband paid for both us and our friends. 5 people. Meal, Wines, Desserts the whole thing. So it was close to 400$
After the payment, the bald waiter came over and rudely asked if something was wrong with the food, because we had “only”left a 10% tip. Then he just walked off in a huff. I followed him to ask what his issue was and why he was confronting and trying to intimidate my husband like that. He said 10% was too little for someone who had occupied a table for 45 minutes. Isn’t that weird! It’s a restaurant! We meet our friends. Didn’t occcupy- we just ate.
We just moved here from Germany and wanted to have a pleasant evening with friends. It’s strange that this man is setting such an extreme example of Florida, which we normally love.
But I guess it’s a place of extremes, and fortunately there are so many wonderful people here who do have manners and respect.
This guy definitely still needs to learn how to behave. He couldn’t even look me in the eye as i confronted him. He said if I didn’t like way he talks to me, I should talk to the manager. He acted like a child and walked away.
We expect an apology. A tip is a gift. And he really crossed the line disrespecting our friends, disrespecting my husband and disrespecting me and all in front of our 10 year old daughter. He should be ashamed of himself!
Funny thing is before we asked him about the noise the kitchen always makes. He said it’s when the kitchen gets tipped so we were about to do that too. But after his theatrical act we didn’t and we wouldn’t recommend going there. Because they do not appreciate gifts or customers.
It was very loud too.
Icecream was super tasty.
My pasta was good too. But again the tuna was partly raw same as the behavior of the...
Read moreIt pains me to do this because what I’m going to say is only going to make it harder to get a seat the next time we want to eat here, but here goes. This was my first visit after hearing good reviews from friends. I’m not sure why it took us so long to check it out, but I’m so glad we did!
Pulling up to the restaurant, I was underwhelmed by the outside, but I did notice that people were streaming in. We arrived at 5pm as the restaurant was opening for dinner, and the tables were already mostly full. We sat at the bar and had the distinct pleasure of having the owner Ross as our server. Ross is an oenophile, and the wine list reflects his excellent taste and knowledge of wine. Ross regaled us with first-hand stories of his experiences with some of the wines we know and love on his list. We choose the Bella Union Cabernet Sauvignon made by Far Niente vineyards. It was lovely!
The bar overlooks the stoves where the food is prepared, and we watched the chef preparing the Roasted Oysters. It looked so amazing, we immediately ordered them, and they were outstanding! I had the Panko Crusted Fried Sea Scallops with creamed corn and a cornbread muffin, and my guy had the Swordfish au Poivre with roasted potatoes and asparagus. Both meals were out of this world! I try to avoid dessert but Ross told us that the ice cream is homemade and very unique, so we tried the Salted Caramel flavor. OMG! The flavor was so good, but the slightly chewy texture took it to another level! Overall, we enjoyed everything so much, we can’t wait to...
Read moreAnother flight crew had mentioned this place to us and we decided to go check it out. Both my copilot and our flight attendant are both big foodies so they aren’t easily impressed. We arrived basically just in time to get a table at 5:25pm. A line started forming about 5:30pm. The staff is cordial and VERY efficient. You’d think everyone was Swiss because it seemed to run like clockwork. We ordered a couple of iced teas and one appetizer. As our waitress brought the teas about a minute later, our flight attendant ordered an appetizer as well. The waitress informed us that she’d just put in the other app order and they wouldn’t be ready at the same time - just as an FYI. Sure enough, the second appetizer came out about 90 seconds after the first. Crab cakes was the first one, which were very good. My copilot remarked that he could eat about 9 (three orders) of them and just call that dinner! The second appetizer was calamari which is not personally something I’m in to, but our FA that usually avoids fried foods like the plague, was raving about the calamari and how good the breading was on it. My copilot agreed with her. Main courses were two orders of the fish of the day and I ordered the broiled seafood platter minus calamari (substitute is extra shrimp). All was fabulous. We’ll definitely keep Captain Charlie’s in our list of go to places when we’re in town. Dinner for 3, 2 appetizers, two iced teas and a glass of Chardonnay - plus a 20% tip came...
