expections coming in riding high since they were attached to a subway because i could smell that bread.. pretty sure they use subways leftovers. chicken and meat resembled leftover subway. booths very ripped and sticky. lots of flies. reminded me of 1980's full of western artifacts. and games. and horseshoe. not on a horse. it almost hooked my shirt and hung me on the wall. i wonder why it is called the sunrise grill. maybe because they serve breakfast. or maybe sometimes they get a little cardboard cutout of the sun and rise it over your head while you eating. juices were good though but gravy weird. undescribable taste. had the rueben.. meat too thick. need more coleslaw and thousand island on reuben. the hashbrowns filled entire plate and were worst thing on plate. good value.. poor flavor. mini browns. this get burnt? .. is what i thought to myself. somehow they had some undercooked and some burnt. some smashed. strange. flavor odd... not sure if they were actually potato. mashed potatoes were oddly smooth and alien-like. liked the painting of children at rodeo, warmed my heart. bikers seem to love it. 30% bikers.. many bikers. only place to eat for about 50 miles. its between this, gas station and subway. hard choice. i think gas station may be better. service great, server very nice. chicken tenders flavorless yet still taste like something i do not want to taste ever again. mushy blubber on top... tried to take it off and it fell in the fries so then i was hesitant to eat the fries it touched. forgot we were still doing review for a moment but now back in it. one server seemed like she was running the entire restaurant. she was really good, should get a raise. she may have even been cooking food. give her better supplies. decor. silverware. plates. food. basically take everything there and make it better. good work ethic but the result was bad work. clean everything, dust coated everything. tried to find something good but parking lot bad too. no other options, they have south dakota wrapped around their finger. holes in booth bad. floor cool, did not want you to get your own drinks.
if you still wanna go, good luck! i didnt get sick so you probably wont either.
sorry i said sunrise grill, forgot it was sunset grill so maybe they take the sun and lower it behind you very slowly but you can still...
Read moreCome prepared to spend some time and leave unhappy. Most of staff don't seem to speak English and communicating an order is a pain. You will wait at least 45 minutes for a hamburger just to find it does not come with any condiments- totally bare. If you want something fancy like pickle, lettuce, onion, etc. you must order a "deluxe" burger for $1.50 more. You will never be offered a refill on any of your drinks and it is not because the waitresses are too busy. There were 3 waitresses there working 10-12 tables between them and they still could not find time to check on their tables. They seemed to spend most of their time at the counter with the cook, trying to figure out what order went to what table. With only a few tables each it seems like that shouldn't be such a chore. Owner should probably spend a little time there and either train or replace the staff. Might be best to drive a little further down the road and find a different...
Read moreThe first thing we see is a sign that says, "Please tip, we are short staffed." There were around 12-15 tables max in the whole place with 2 servers and about 3 kitchen staff. This is not short staffed for such a small place; we were at a truck stop 2x bigger with half the staff for breakfast, and they were a tight ship. Our server didn't greet us (merely said "how many" upon entry), barely spoke to us at all in fact, no 2 minute check back or any check backs, dressed in sweats and a crop top. The loudest and longest thing she said the entire time was our total: $69. For 3 burgers and 2 kids' meals. No big deal.....if the service is phenomenal. It was not. As a rule, we try to make sure we never tip less than 20%; this was the first time ever I tipped 15%. The other server was hustling, though. Even helped ours bus tables. We make this road trip often and may stop again as the food was decent, but will ask for another server if this...
