We were so glad to find out a new Thai restaurant has opened in the same place as Aloy Aloy which closed down (late May/early June) 2024.
My wife and I went to Aloy Aloy several times per week and we hope to do the same at Amazing Thai.
It’s my understanding they have only been open for two or three days as of this posting July 6, 2024. When we found the old restaurant had closed down - my wife and I tried several other Thai restaurants in Katy and the food did not meet our expectations.
When I googled “Thai restaurants Katy Texas” all of a sudden I saw this new listing called “Amazing Thai” on Westheimer Parkway so I called and asked if they are in the same location as the former restaurant, they said yes. I asked my wife if she wanted to try this new Thai restaurant she agreed.
Since we had eaten at the other restaurant many, many times, we decided to go with the same dishes we always got and that will tell us if this place is good or not.
Chicken Satay appetizer - check - thinner pieces of chicken but delicious. Chicken Spring Rolls - check - bigger and more like an egg roll, delicious. Pad See Eiw - check - tender chicken and shrimp with a good amount of broccoli, delicious. Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodles) - check -wonderful flavors, perfect spice level, tender beef, chicken and shrimp, delicious. Thai Iced Tea - check - better than before. Dessert - we wanted coconut ice cream- missed. They didn’t have any, but we were offered mango sticky rice.
Verdict - we think “Amazing Thai” is amazing. I met the new owners and one staff members from the former restaurant has been hired by them.
Their menu is very similar to the former restaurant and the decor is almost the same. We will definitely be back!
I’m not an employee of this establishment and the views expressed in this review are my personal opinion. I was not paid or endorsed to say anything good or bad about Amazing Thai in Katy.
P.S.- They’re hidden in a shopping center behind what used to be a drug store on the northwest corner of South Fry Road and Westheimer Pkwy. in Katy.
They are closed on Mondays, but open Tuesday through Sunday. There’s plenty of parking, it is ADA wheelchair accessible, and has a good variety of vegetarian options available.
As of this review, it still says the old restaurant name above )on the façade), but the door has the new establishment’s name and...
Read moreWhile the restaurant atmosphere and service is great, it is lacking in food taste. We have tried almost a dozen places in Katy when it comes to Thai food and unfortunately, this place falls short.
They do however, get full marks for plating, portion size and decor. All of the dishes felt like they were missing something.. the spring rolls were adequate, the peanut sauce with the chicken satay had a weird taste to it.. the Penang curry did not have any coconut milk and was more like a Tom Yum soup. Do not recommend. The green curry was sweet, the pad see ew noodle dish had no taste and neither did the basil fried rice. It felt like some key component was missing to give it that authentic taste. Maybe fish sauce? Soy sauce? Can’t put my finger on exactly what it was.
Service was excellent and the restaurant’s ambience was good. The restaurant is in a plaza and has lots of parking.
Unfortunately, we will...

We were faithful clients to Aloy Aloy because of the fantastic Thai food in Katy. We were sad to find out they closed and switched ownership. We hoped the food was still on point. Unfortunately, its not.
The Tiger Cry lacked presentation, didnt come with sticky rice like its supposed to, and it wasnt close i terms of flavor to the previous establishment.
The Tom Yum, while good, was a bit on the sweet side and had too much carrot for our liking.
The Pad Kee Mao was good, as this is not something you can't mess up, but it disnt stand out.
The reason for the 3-star is it failed to deliver like Aloy Aloy and the prices were much more expensive. This was unfortunate, as we were hoping for more...
