We experienced next-level hospitality from this incredible family-run business on a night we will never forget.
My family and I were staying in Poipu when the tsunami evacuation was issued. Seeking higher ground, we joined a long line of cars heading up the hill and found ourselves at Warehouse 3540 and Drift Kauai. Looking back, I truly believe there was no better place we — along with 100+ other travelers from around the world — could have ended up on the entire island.
Around 4:00 PM, just three hours before the anticipated first wave, most of the shops and food trucks at Warehouse 3540 understandably closed for the night. But Drift Kauai stayed open — offering not just food and drinks, but also shelter, restrooms, water, and a genuine sense of calm and care.
Their entire family worked tirelessly for the next 7+ hours, serving incredible food and drinks until they quite literally ran out of everything. In the midst of a tense and uncertain situation, they did their best to keep us informed and make sure everyone was cared for — restocking bathrooms, making sure we had what we needed, and maintaining a warm, welcoming environment throughout the night.
With nowhere else to go, we enjoyed great food and drink, played games, found cover from the rain squalls, and even caught a surprise performance from a traveling trapeze troupe who were sheltering with us.
What could have been a frightening and stressful night became a truly memorable experience and a highlight of our trip — thanks to their kindness and generosity. Their hospitality was extraordinary, and we will always be...
Read moreI did a deep dive on some places locally that sounded fun and we "drifted" to this spot (sorry but I'm a dad so I have an excuse plus the owner chuckled so I thought it was ok). What a lucky surprise. It sounds like a local spot that a few tourists "drift" into. The food was out families favorite so far in our 4 days here. So amazing and the drive over was really beautiful as well. Oh and there was a guy playing music that was really entertaining. So happy we discovered it. To be fair they have been open 2 years but WE just discovered them. The fact that they make all these awesome food and drinks from a trailer makes it that much more impressive. Everything we had we next level. Do yourself a favor and discover this place like we did...you...
Read moreWe are in Kauai right now, and landed an hour before the tsunami warning sounded. In search of somewhere to hunker down, we happened upon this place right as they closed. The owners not only reopened for people, but they provided an amazing atmosphere, and it felt like a neighborhood hangout. They eventually had to close down, but kept the lights on, restocked the bathroom with toilet paper, and let everyone know that they could park here...
