I try to always offer positive reviews. So here’s the positive. The staff is kind. Save yourself the grief of trying to eat an overpriced, poor quality, unappetizing meal. I read reviews that said it was delicious. I’m a Southern gal and I know southern cooking. This ain’t it, y’all! The food quality is low grade. It’s not the preparer’s fault. A tough cut of meat is difficult to make tender. Cheap Frozen cobblers bought in bulk do not have enhanced flavor with proper baking, etc. The only way for this restaurant to improve is to buy higher quality food. I had the breakfast buffet and the dinner buffet. I watched them set out the lunch buffet at 10:00am for the 11:00 to 1:30 lunch. I think the same salad buffet was set out for dinner. (Or was it even put away between the two mealtimes?) At 5:00pm the iceberg lettuce was quite brown and wilted. The meatballs had an odd tasting orange color sauce. I was unable to cut the extremely tough pork chops. The cornbread muffins were dry and salty. There was something that resembled cornbread dressing. I assure you, it tasted nothing like a good cornbread dressing should taste. For those of you who are judging southern cooking by what you ate here, please go to a true southern restaurant to taste the difference! Also, do yourself a favor and have stuff to make sandwiches in your room for yourself. You’ll be...
Read moreI hosted a Hikerbabes VIP Retreat, and we spent the weekend hiking at Cumberland Falls. So, on Saturday night, after a full day of adventure, we ate at the Riverview Restaurant located inside the Lodge at the State Park. Sorry, no pics, I ate my food faster than it could be sat down in front of me! There was a convention, and they seemed understaffed, but we only had to wait about 30 minutes to get seated, and then service was QUICK! The price point at the Kentucky State Parks for meals can not be beat! I lead group hikes in Indiana & Kentucky, and we eat at State Parks when it's available, and I have yet to be disappointed!
There was a buffet, which only 1 of us got, but she enjoyed it! All of our other meals we ordered off the menu, and no one left hungry! There were vegetarian options, plus options for 1 girl who is gluten and dairy free! We never had to ask for a drink refill.
Please note, there are still dry counties in Kentucky, and this is one of them. So, no...
Read moreWe visited off-season and found the property beautifully decorated for the holidays. We came to the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner.
Breakfast included an assortment of pastries, breads, and muffins, along with a few fresh fruit options, yogurt and juice. Hot options included scrambled eggs, sausage, and biscuits with gravy, and of course, Belgium waffles.
Dinner had a varied menu of standard southern fare, along with a nightly special. There was a nice soup and salad bar that stood on its own as a dinner option for less than $10. Entree prices were very reasonable and the portions were huge!
Service was wonderful, like being at a favorite aunt's home, making sure there's enough to eat and drink, checking in and refilling drinks before they were even empty. It was such a fantastic experience.
The view though... words don't do it justice, even on a dreary day, it...
