I have visited this mountain for skiing three years in a row now, for several days both times. The terrain is fun (if there is full snow cover!), and the pistes and hills are well-maintained. The mountain is also less crowded than I expected for holiday weekends. The food on the mountain is overpriced compared to other ski areas we visit, but I would expect this for Ketchum. The drinks, however, seem reasonably priced. I appreciate that dogs can hang out outside. Note that the outdoor patio is fully shaded by the end of the ski day - a bummer for après!
The River Run Lodge itself great- opulent, nice lighting, friendly and helpful staff (bartenders, those who make food, mountain hosts, bussers, etc.). However, what could be a pleasant atmosphere for lunch, drinks, and taking a break is utterly spoiled by how the resort allows people to leave their personal belonging (large bulky boots, duffel bags, etc.) everywhere. It looks like someone's phenomenally messy house entryway, sometimes with very real tripping hazards. Lunches and post-ski drinks are made unpleasant by people pushing and weaving between your seats and tables, in some cases under both, into the Christmas trees, and into the fireplace mantle decorations to find their personal belongings. The parking lots are both close to the lodge, and the lodge has wagons for carting things to/from a drop-off point. I don't see a reason for this practice to be allowed, aside from the entitlement most guests seem to carry. It is such a shame that the decor, architecture, and what could be a pleasant environment are spoiled by the phenomenal mess and disorganization. The resort would really benefit from disallowing this behavior. I have not seen this practice allowed in such force at any other ski resort, and it has spoiled...
Read moreThe River Run Lodge in Sun Valley offers a warm, cozy, and inviting atmosphere that’s perfect for a relaxing getaway. The service was exceptional—every staff member was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome. However, while the ambiance and service were top-notch, the food didn’t quite match up to the high prices. It was decent, but for what you pay, I was expecting more. Overall, it’s a great spot for a cozy atmosphere and excellent service, but the food could use some improvement for the...
Read moreThe food here is surprisingly good and made with quality ingredients. I love that they often have gluten free and dairy free options at the soup bar. The pizza is weirdly good. The cookies are amazing and made with simple, whole food ingredients. I highly recommend the bison chili. Plus, during the winter season they have Apres vibes featuring a rotation of local and regional musicians. The end of season party...
