If John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” had a physical form, it would be right here, in this cozy, welcoming, and downright iconic establishment where every inch of the place screams Mountaineer pride!
From the moment you step in, you’re greeted with the warmest hospitality this side of the Alleghenies. The friendly bartenders feel like they’ve known you forever, and the atmosphere is like coming home to your own piece of wild and wonderful West Virginia. You’ll find locals swapping stories, travelers stopping for a cold one, and everyone singing along to—you guessed it—“Country Roads” playing in the background. It’s the kind of place where everyone knows the words and isn’t afraid to belt them out with pride.
The décor? Pure West Virginia through and through! Walls decked with WV memorabilia, a tribute to our rich Appalachian heritage, and a vibe that’ll make you feel like you’re sitting on a porch overlooking rolling hills. And don’t even get me started on the food and drinks! Whether it’s a frosty brew or some good ol’ West Virginia comfort food, every bite and sip tastes like home. You can almost hear those Blue Ridge Mountains calling you back for another round.

Read moreI’ve eaten at the Country Roads Pub a few times, and it’s my local go-to spot in Keyser for a Reuben sandwich. There’s something about the way they stack that corned beef, rye, and sauerkraut—it’s just spot-on every time. It is not a two stack Rubin with three slices of bread but a single stack. The food here’s reliably good, nothing fancy, but hearty and tasty, which is exactly what I’m after when I walk through the door.
The place hasn’t changed much from the old restaurant and pub that used to be here—same layout, same vibe, like stepping into a time capsule. But honestly, it works. It’s clean, which I really appreciate, and the service is friendly and quick without feeling rushed. You’re not waiting forever for your food, and the staff always seem happy to see you.
Pricing’s moderate—won’t break the bank, but it’s not dirt-cheap either. My Reuben and a drink usually run me a fair amount, and I’m happy to pay it for the quality. It’s a solid local hangout, perfect for a laid-back meal alone or with friends. I will continue to eat...
