My wife and I took our two kids to this restaurant with high hopes while on vacation. And first we tried to sit on the patio because the temperature was freezing cold in the restaurant. However, the mosquitoes were so bad we moved back in and sat in the Ryder Cup area. In all seriousness I had to be 60 degrees in the place. The views while dining are beautiful and we experienced a very gorgeous sunset. This was probably the only strong positive of our entire dinner experience. Well, actually the crispy shrimp appetizer was fair as well. I ordered the Bouillabaisse seafood dish with great expectations that this would be their best seafood dish as it was priced at $56. The seafood menu was actually quite limited and there was no crab legs, scallops, or lobster offered. I sincerely think the chef cooked up seafood and put it in Campbell’s tomato soup with a few chopped onions. Everything else was average. I also ordered the mussels appetizer and the mussels were quite small and a pesto sauce that was not that impressive. Two small pieces of bread were served with the mussels, which would’ve been disappointing if the sauce was good enough to actually want to dip the bread into. My wife ordered the spinach with garlic as a side and it had little flavor as well as it was very bland. Our server was nice enough and tried to attend to us well although at times she seem to disappear. Overall, I would be very reluctant to return and pay these kind of prices for this...
Read moreWe love the Atlantic room and the Ryder Cup bar next door. The views of the ocean over the rolling greens of the golf course and through the waving seagrass dunes are magical. The joy of kids running barefoot through the grass makes you want to ditch your shoes and relive your carefree youth. Dinner at sunset is is spectacular, but that is no secret so get your sunset reservation well before you arrive on the island. The service is top notch, but without losing that southern friendliness.
We have eaten here many times and recommend our guests at #424SeaLavender give it a go. All our meals have been 5 star until last night. My wife loves swordfish and was glad to see it was on the new menu. As she ate it she commented that it did not taste like any swordfish she had eaten before, and thought maybe it was overwhelmed by the tomato pompador that came with it. She brought the leftovers home and while eating it the next day commented again that it did not taste like other swordfish. She then looked at the texture and grain of the fish and noted that it also seemed different from swordfish. Neither of us could imagine they would substitute another fish and it is not like they need to improve their profit margins, but we are stumped.
Nevertheless, we will continue to return and expect a renewed string of...
Read moreBig disappointment. Atmosphere with the views of the 18 hole and the Atlantic Ocean were amazing. Everything else was a disappointment. I agree with a previous review that an expensive restaurant does not guarantee quality. And in this case the quality was overall below average. The service was below average and the sides were served without serving utensils. The crispy shrimp appetizer was excellent as was the tuna tartare. The entrees were below average, especially considering the price. I had the Captain's Stew which included a pathetically small piece of the fresh catch of the day. The pappardelle was dry and bland. The fresh catch was the best dish. The great views and atmosphere were also overshadowed by all the babies and toddler in attendance. I was surprised to see how many people brought toddlers and babies to dinner which created chaos and noise. After dinner we went out to the putting green for some photos and one family literally had set up a picnic on the putting green for their young family. Can you imaging setting up a picnic on the putting green of a world class golf course? I would recommend coming for the photos and views, having a drink at the bar, and getting dinner somewhere else. Dinner at the Atlantic room was not...
