I can’t understand where the good reviews come from. When arriving at the ice cream shop my family and I were immediately put off by the group of kids lounging around inside, some with legs up, dirty boots resting on the customer’s tables. This night was window service only, clearly. The server seemed to be a bit embarrassed by the scene. Who could blame her? Our guess is that another one of the kids should’ve been working with her but was busy entertaining the others. That aside, we heard great reviews about the ice cream and were anxious to try. Far from what we’d heard, the ice cream was highly crystalized to the point of being a bit crunchy with ice. The ice must’ve melted and been refrozen. The alternative is simply incompetence at the manufacturer. Either way, there was little regard for quality as all four flavors had the same off putting texture. The flavors weren’t great either, perhaps a result of the quality. If you’re looking for truly great ice cream try The Dairy Barn or Oh Fudge! in the warmer seasons or Honeycone in Chester, year round. Dairy Barn is the creamiest and Honeycone wins for delicious and creative flavors! Maybe even give Crossroads a try, it might’ve been a rare set of bad...
Read moreAs if Coldstone and Dairy Queen became one independent icecream shop. The environment is highly enjoyable and has a good ole' fashion Connecticut farm stand vibe. The soft serve icecream has much more richness and flavor than anywhere else I fulfill my icecream needs. The hard icecream is very good aswell. Sorbet and gluten free options too. The amount served was more than I expected, which in icecream terms is an excellent thing. Lots of seats, most interestingly the adirondack chairs looking at the small pond they have. About 9 picnic tables with umbrellas. Parking wasn't a hassle either. I work near by and visit the hiking paths nearby a lot, and with such a crossroad like location we should all stop in for 15 mintues for a belly full...
Read moreThe ice cream is pretty good, but I'm a bit disappointed in our last visit. My husband and youngest both ordered milkshakes with hard ice cream, which is extra. I wasn't paying attention at first but then watched the girl fill the cup with soft serve and put a tiny scoop of hard ice cream on top after we made eye contact. I got the feeling she only did that because I was watching. I didn't bother to cause a scene and ruin our evening, but it is frustrating. That might have have been our last trip there, especially when there's another shop...
