Family came to town and wanted to go to Coltons.. I tried to warn them, but they insisted.
Party of 6. They sat us at a table for 4 and added 2 chairs to the end. It was a terrible arrangement without room. It was a Thursday night... lots of empty tables. So, when the food arrived, the plates literally hung off the edge to be 3 wide... we moved tables together ourselves. BUT it was the best food I've ever had here. Not the best food I've had, just the best it's ever been here.
My third attempt to like this restaurant will be the last.
Visit #1: Food was good, service was not. We were seated next to a birthday party with multiple tickets that needed to be divided. This shouldn't have been a big deal but it was. Our/their serve mixed up bills and people who left paid for the wrong items leaving the remaining people to pay for food that wasn't theirs. We watched the drama of this for about 2/3 of our meal. When we were ready to leave, our server was still dedicating his time to the bill mix up. We asked multiple people/times for our check but were told that only our server could do it. After about 30 minutes we got our own to-go box and headed to the front counter to pay (without a bill). Again, we were told that only our server could help us - but he was too busy. We had to practically beg to be allowed to pay so that we could leave. It took over an hour from the time we were ready to leave until we could actually leave.
Visit #2: late afternoon/early evening. The restaurant was pretty empty and only the main room was open. I think there was one server. Service was good but the food was subpar. We didn't have plans to return
Visit #3: our favorite Mexican restaurant closed early, so, we decided to give this place another go. The food was bad (bad!) The spinach and artichoke dip was 25% dip, 75% congealed cheese. The croutons in the side salad were soggy. The mac and cheese was gritty/powdery. They topped the loaded baked potato soup with shredded carrots. The people at the table next to us sent two plates back, the first had hair in it, and the second plate went back to the kitchen because the fish was undercooked.

Read moreService took two tries to get our seating right (we had 4 adults and 3 children, one of whom is 4 months and not eating solids yet). That wait ended up being about 10 ish minutes (and there was no one in front of us, as it was after the dinner rush and not very busy, about 8:15-8:30 pm).
Our waitress was great, though! Very attentive, kept up on drinks--I don't think we ever had to ask for refills, she had great timing! Our appetizer, an onion blossom, was one of the best I've had (I don't normally enjoy blooming onion-style onions).
The entree was a mess though. Three of us adults ordered the 6 oz sirloin: we all ordered them to be medium. All three steaks came out well done and we didn't feel like waiting another 20 minutes for new steaks, so we told the waitress not to worry about taking it back to the kitchen. How can a place call themselves a steak house and get steak so wrong??? Admittedly, the flavor of the steaks was pretty decent, but it was very tough because of just how done it was.
Then the sides. The smashed potatoes were barely more than room temp and even with adding salt, pepper, butter, and the seasoning blend on the table, were quite bland. The "4 cheese mac n cheese," which we paid an extra dollar for as it is a "premium" side dish, was not worth it at all. It was boringly average. Not nearly as cheesy as you'd expect from "4 cheese" and having to pay extra, and didn't really taste any better than the shells n cheese that you buy at the grocery with the powdered cheese. It also seemed to maybe have been sitting a bit, as the top had the "sticky, air-exposed noodle" look to them. It was also not very hot, just like the other sides.
Didn't end up having dessert, but we had heard rave reviews and were very disappointed in the food quality. Idk if it was an off night in the kitchen or something, but we probably won't be returning...
Read moreWe have been here numerous times this year but had stopped going a month or so ago. Went in on a Sunday, around 4/5. It wasn't busy but we had to wait to be seated. We wait about 20minutes and watch as the hostess (who you could tell was new) seats everyone in a booth in the same section (I understand she's not going to scatter everyone across the place) but told her I didn't want a booth but a table. She looked at us and down at her paper and was like, I don't think that's possible. I asked again, and she said it would be an extra 20 minutes as that's for a server that was coming in so I'd have to wait for them. It was the table next to the booth in the same front section. We still joke about it Everytime we drive by, "wonder if they have a table for us? Nope it's impossible." I would have given them some slack if they were busy but it was almost 5pm with maybe 6 booths full but the kicker was when I saw 3-4 of the staff just hanging out on their phones and laughing (which again have fun, life's too serious anyways) but that was the cherry on top of the incompetent Sunday. There was plenty of help, wasn't being ridiculous as I wanted to sit at the table 3 feet away from the booth but it was impossible. We haven't been back since and probably won't because of how impossible it is to get a table. We went pretty regularly (couple times a month) as not much around here. Now if there was a Texas Roadhouse then forget about it, as Colton's is like the sad cousin of Texas Roadhouse who is trying to imitate them but just worse. I'm sure I'll get over it next year but just made us so made that...
