Edit 11/8/2025: I had an extremely unpleasant experience picking up my to-go order tonight, thanks to the two hostesses at the door at around 6:55 PM, specifically. From these two women making a conscious choice to walk in right before I got to the door and let it slam in my face, to the lack of proper greeting, the insinuation I was lying about missing my drink ("I don't see it," says one while lazily scrolling through the computer, when it's literally printed on the receipt stapled to my bag and, therefore, impossible not to be in the system) and being silently and blankly analyzed as I'm being handed said drink, I felt extremely unwelcome and borderline judged for whatever reason. I'm quite honestly shocked, as this is so unlike the first visit I raved about below, and each subsequent experience. I have visited no less than six times, both alone and with my family, and have had a wonderful time every time...until tonight. Tonight, I felt like I did not belong there at all. I'd like to think I'm a fair person, and since this is such an abnormal occurrence, I still think my initial five-star rating is accurate and it will remain untouched. A pattern that I personally experience needs to be established, first, before I edit any old review to detract stars. But, I am extremely disappointed, and now uncomfortably aware of a possible shift in the restaurant's dynamic that does not feel good to me. I really hope this truly was a one-off--I understand that everyone has their "off" nights; perfection does not exist--and that I never have to feel like this again when coming here.

Original Review: This was my first experience at any Tacos Don Andres restaurant. I had heard great things about the Davenport location months ago, but never managed to make it out there.

It, hands down, was the best authentic Mexican food I've ever had. Service was excellent, too, beginning as soon as I walked in and was greeted by the hostess (Liv), and continuing with my waiter (David) and the restaurant manager, who stopped to see how I was doing as she was walking by. I had delightful conversations with all of them. The restaurant's aesthetic and design is really well-done.

I had the chips and salsa with a side of queso, the Birria tacos, and a guava Caipirinha, per my waiter's recommendation. I've never had a Caipirinha prior to today, and I enjoyed it a lot. I've also never had Birria before, but have been wanting to try it for a while. The consomé combined with the braised meat was simply out of this world. The jalapeño rice was so, so good, also. My order came extremely quickly, and the temperature of everything was perfect (queso very hot, tacos not overly so; just how I like it).

I was heading to try a different restaurant (chain fast casual) when I remembered that Tacos don Andres had recently opened in Celebration. I’d popped my head in during their soft opening not long ago and was taken by how beautiful the restaurant was, and how tempting their menu was. I was just coming up on the exit so off I went.

The restaurant sits on the corner of a fairly new area in town. When you walk in, like I said previously, the restaurant is beautiful. A very friendly host greeted me and, as they’d only open a few minutes before I arrived, lead me to a great high top table by the window. My server, Michael, arrived shortly after to introduce himself, lay down menus, and give me time to look everything over. Both the drink and food menus aren’t huge, which means they can focus on doing your food right, but I still had to take my time to decide as there were plenty of interesting dishes to choose from.

When Michael returned, I was still deciding on my lunch but did go ahead an order a cocktail. I was torn between two cocktails and asked which he recommended. I wish I’d written down the name, La Frida… something with blackberry puree in it. It was just what I was in the mood for.

Since moving to Florida, I have discovered that I love birria tacos so that’s what I ordered. I will explore the menu more on future visits! While I waited, I sipped my cocktail, nibbled on chips and salsa, and pretended I was on vacation somewhere in the Mexican Riviera while listening to the music and looking out the window at the small lake across the street. I know, I know. It may sound dramatic but the thought did cross my mind.

My lunch order soon arrived and it was exactly what I’d hope for. A bowl of broth for dipping, a bowl of pinto beans, a nice dome of yellow rice, and three great smelling tacos laid out in front. I took the first bite of taco unadulterated. Some birria tacos I’ve had have been so flavorful, it almost didn’t need the container of broth. Others, well, thank goodness for the broth. These tacos were truly just right. I could eat them as is, though I did enjoy dipping them in the broth for that extra juicy burst of flavor. There were lime wedges on the plate which I’d not had before so I added a fresh squeeze on my second taco and will ask for limes if available wherever I eat birria tacos. It was a perfect compliment to all that rich, meaty flavor.

I sipped, I chewed, I smiled. Michael kept an eye on me without being intrusive. Water glass got low, he was there. Checking to see if I needed anything about halfway through my meal. I never felt rushed. I can’t wait...

The food was delicious, the atmosphere was very enjoyable, the restaurant was super clean, the prices are fair and reasonable, especially considering the great quality of the dishes. Lastly, but certainly not least, the service was great…..very prompt and attentive. From the moment that you enter, you are greeted by a Staff that makes it obvious that they want to make you feel at home. Throughout our meal, various Staff members came by our table and asked if we needed anything. One of the highlights of our meal was our Server, GABE. He was both very friendly and very professional! He made the entire experience an enjoyable one. He made sure that our meal was exactly the way that we wanted it. His sincerity was obvious. His demeanor was so warm that you’d want to invite him to join you for dinner if he wasn’t busy working. In the unofficial opinion of this retired Judge, GABE is a definite asset to the restaurant! This was our second visit to this restaurant and it certainly won’t be the last! ANOTHER VISIT: My last visit was so enjoyable that I wanted to see if things were still as good. So, after being out of town for a while, we went in for lunch today. I was more than pleasantly surprised to see that everything….food, service, atmosphere was still great. It is obvious that excellence in all of those areas is the norm here. Again, as soon as we entered we were greeted by a friendly Hostess with a sincere smile. The entire Staff is quite DeLand all say hello as they pass our table. On this visit we had the pleasure of having CHARLES as our Server. He was also both very friendly and very professional! It was like having a friend guide you through a truly wonderful dining experience….like eating at a gracious friend’s house….only in better designed surroundings…..LOL. As I said before, we will return for any great...
