I was in La Junta to watch my nephew's football game. It was a cold and breezy evening. I wanted something warm like a bowl of soup. Imagine my utter surprise when I googled " restaurants close to me" and the very first suggestion was Yak & Yeti. I was completely surprised that an Indian, Nepali restaurant had opened. I have been struggling for the 5 years that I have lived on these Plains full time to find a restaurant that satisfied my very picky palette. It was around 8 o'clock on a Thursday night. It wasn't busy. I I started off with a delightful mug of hot Chai. Perfectly spiced. As I was looking over the rather extensive menu, I was brought a light as a feather, crispy, flecked with cumin seeds papadam with 4 different chutneys. The tomato and plum were my 2 favorites. I am a huge fan of ginger beer so I decided to try their honey ginger soda. It did not disappoint. I ordered a onion kulcha. It was pillowy and heavy with red onion. For my entree, I decided to try what I knew my better half would like. ( since I decided then and there that this was going to be the restaurant that I always requested we dine at when together in town). The chicken ginger kabob was incredible. Succulent, expertly seasoned and more than enough to share or, in my case, leftovers. The sizzling presentation was lovely. A bowl of delicately spiced basmati rice accompanied the chicken. I also ordered malai kofta to go. It's a type of vegetarian dumpling made with ground veggies, cheese, cashews, and dates. Simmered in a lovely gently spiced cream sauce. I tasted it when I got home. Sublime. I now have enough amazing food to feed myself for the weekend while my Hunny is back in the mountains looking for our last few elusive cow pairs!!!!!! Please step outside of your comfort zone if you have never eaten Indian cuisine before. I absolutely promise, you will not be disappointed.
New update: The last time we went here, to say that I was SEVERELY disappointed is an understatement. They have completely done away with ALL of their delicious Indian/Nepali food. In its place, they are now serving very uninspired American food. It is the kind of food that most of the restaurants east of Pueblo serve if they aren't a Mexican restaurant. I will never go back unless they change their menu back to the...

We stopped for the night in La Junta and while searching for something for dinner Yak & Yeti popped up. It was initially a pleasant surprise given th normal food options in Eastern CO and rural KS. However, to our surprise when we walked in the door all hopes of some Indian cuisine were lost. It's now a regular bar food type establishment serving decent burgers and whole bunch of fried food. Of the three items we got, the appetizer of wings were straight out of a freezer bag, pre-breaded and though fried to doneness were more like Store bought wings for home than what you expect at a restaurant. The burgers were actually pretty decent, but the accompanying fries were not very well cooked.
Our server was very pleasant and great to chat with. She explained the restaurant had stopped serving Indian and Nepali food about two years prior due to weak sales. For being the only server in the place she did a good job of taking care of us and the other parties there.
All in all it was a disappointment dampened slightly by decent burgers and a friendly waitress. Just be forewarned to calibrate your expectations before taking the name...

This is NOT an Indian/Nepali restaurant, and has not been since it changed hands more than a year ago. Instead, it's an American bar and grill that serves several Mexican-American dishes and rotating specials. It's also primarily a "lounge" where you come for the drinks. The food is average to below average and I have had very poor impressions of the quality of service both times I've been here.
None of these things are good, but I'd care less if the info on this Google maps location didn't seem to be actively misleading. The restaurant prior to what currently exists here was significantly better, and had good reviews... And those same good reviews for the old restaurant are still around, falsifying this restaurant's Google visibility.
Yak and Yeti Bar & Lounge owners, please fix this and I'd be happy to...
