We visited one of our favorite spots for lunch to try their banana leaf non-veg thali today, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. Having been to this restaurant a couple of times before, I was excited to see what their thali had to offer, and it did not disappoint.
As soon as we sat down, we were welcomed with a refreshing drink of watermelon juice. This set the tone for the meal ahead. The thali itself was a feast for the senses, served on a banana leaf, and included a variety of delicious items: chicken pulao, white rice, a fish appetizer, chicken curry, goat curry, dal, sambar, papad, curd, a sweet dish, and fresh fruits. The best part? We could get refills of whatever we wanted.
Each dish was a testament to the quality and flavor of the food. The chicken pulao stood out with its aromatic spices, and the chicken curry was particularly delightful, bursting with rich, savory flavors.
For the price—$16.99 for the non-veg thali and $14.99 for the veg thali—the value was incredible. Compared to buffets where food often goes to waste and can dry out from being left out too long, this thali concept is brilliant. The food is served fresh from the kitchen, ensuring every bite is as good as the first. We also had the option to choose between naan and chapati, and the chapatis were delightfully soft.
A special mention goes to the service. For the first time in any US restaurant, we were given a finger bowl after our meal. This thoughtful touch brought back fond memories of dining in India, and it’s something we’ve missed since moving here.
Beyond the food, the service was consistently excellent. The owner, staff and chefs are always welcoming, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant itself has a great ambiance, making it a perfect spot for a relaxing meal.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would highly recommend the weekend banana leaf thali to everyone. It’s a dining experience that will not disappoint, and we will definitely be coming...
Read moreI am very excited to finally have an Indian restaurant in Nolensville, but unlike others I didn't have the greatest first experience here. I went around 7 pm on a Wednesday evening, it wasn't very busy. I don't know if the host was having a bad day or what, but he was definitely not welcoming and seemed rather annoyed to be taking my order. When I asked how long it would be because he didn't offer a time, I was told 25 minutes and to take a seat. I told him I'd walk around instead. I was back 20ish minutes later, got another abrupt "take a seat" (I didn't). A delivery driver there for an order didn't get better treatment either. 27-28 min after I ordered I returned, was told AGAIN to take a seat, this time I said I would not, I'll wait - and THEN he checked the to-go orders behind him and there was my food.
Unfortunately I found an item missing when I got to my car and when I returned Mr. Unfriendly was nowhere to be seen. But also no one else could be bothered - the bartender in the back clearly preferred to clean his area and the servers were busy with customers. Finally one took pity on me and helped. By this time I had a pretty sour taste in my mouth about the service overall.
The quality of the food was average IMO - the mild curry dish was definitely on the spicy side, and the spicy dish was very spicy. But I'd had better. The dessert (sweet paan) was awful, but I'd never had it before so it was a risk anyway.
I will give Ugadi another shot because I want it to succeed and sometimes the stars just don't align; if it knocks my socks off, I'll update my review...
Read moreAs fans of Indian cuisine, we were excited to visit this restaurant. However, our experience was very disappointing. My wife is sensitive to spicy food (I am not), so ordering at an Indian restaurant is essential to be clear about the spice level. My wife ordered a '1' on the 1-10 spice scale this restaurant offers (some are 1-5 scale). Her dish came out and it caused her to cough and feel nauseous it was so spicy. I tried here dish (I usually order 5-6 out of the 1-10 scale) and it was on the spicy side for even my preferences. The server took the dish back and said they would remake it with no spice. 10 minutes later returning with a new dish. This one was just as spicy and made my wife cough and gag again. The worst part was the server made my wife talk to the owner on the phone to explain the situation, but the server still charged us for the all of the dishes my wife ordered, this despite not eating any of them.
The entire experience was awkward and ruined most of our day considering the time it took my wife to recover and the negative experience overall. A mistaken order happens, but the continuous errors and most importantly the attitude and lack of accountability in the reaction to our experience was...
