Alys' Restaurant — Restaurant in La Veta

I greatly enjoyed dinner on Saturday night (July 23) with friends, one of whom is a regular at Alys' Restaurant. I can see why! The food is fantastic, the atmosphere is warm and friendly, the wine terrific.

We let Alys know I am vegan when we made the reservation; advance notice of dietary restrictions is always a good practice - we can't expect people to be mind readers. Alys prepared a hearty stuffed bell pepper with a savory rice and vegan "meat" filling for me, which was terrific. My friends enjoyed their steak and fish dishes as well. We also loved the olive and pickled tomato tapa already at the table when we were seated. The service was excellent, and Alys herself visited with us. The eco-friendly "Predator" (I know, ironic for a vegan) zinfandel, handpicked by Alys, was incredibly tasty as well.

Alys’ Restaurant is an oasis in a desert of fine dining. There are other enjoyable places in the area, but nothing approaching this quality. The food is excellent, with a verbal menu of the usual steaks and other grilled meats, but also with interesting items and vegetarian items changing weekly. Whatever they’re serving, you can count on it to be well executed and best quality. The wine list is very nice and the prices are half what you expect in a larger town. You won’t find a quality cocktail like this anywhere at this price. The desserts are mainly house made and the choices are many, so leave some room! A local favorite. With the uniqueness of converting a residence into a well designed dining venue, this is a great choice for a dining experience. A large selection of wines, choice of indoor or very nice, outdoor seating. You'll be greeted by the owner, who is very well versed in helping you make a wine selection, the wait staff is very knowledgeable about the menu, friendly, and attentive. We found a good choice of entrees, the food was well prepared, service was good, prices were reasonable. Leave room for dessert!
