It was a terrible experience from start to finish. We waited at the hostess stand for almost 10 min before someone approached us, confirmed the reservation and took us to our table. No “good evening” or “sorry for your wait.”
Our server was quick providing the wine I ordered.
The prices were drastically increased from our numerous previous visits. Additionally, they now charge for bread, which I think is tacky for an upscale, EXPENSIVE restaurant.
I ordered the filet, medium well, which came with mashed potatoes, and Brussels sprouts. The steak was a thick cut, and I quickly cut it before the waiter dashed away. It was maybe medium rare. I asked them to take it back and butterfly it, if they needed to.
They took my whole plate away and I was hungry. When they brought it back, the Brussel sprouts were barely warm. The potatoes weren’t much better. I make better brussel sprouts than the way they were prepared here. The steak still wasn’t done to my liking. And it was SO SALTY. As were the potatoes. I barely ate any of my dinner. The waiter came and took my plate away and said they would comp my meal. No offer of anything else to make my experience better, no offer of a free dessert, etc. Basically I didn’t get charged for a terrible dinner that I didn’t eat.
I called a day later to tell the manager on duty, Brandon, about my extremely poor experience. It took 4 minutes for him to come to the phone and I called at 4 pm, before any dinner rush. I could tell immediately he could have cared less what I had to say. I didn’t even voice all of my concerns because he was unprofessional, and didn’t do anything to assuage our awful experience.
We get MUCH better food and service and quality at Flemings, 801 Local, Bricktops and Twisted Tree. We will NEVER go back to Truffles. And I’m happy to...
Read moreMy husband had the day off and we decided we deserved lunch out! Truffles has been on my to-do list for a long time and I'm glad we could finally make it happen!
This place is beautiful! It screams fine dining the moment you step in! The beautiful paintings, the heavy, comfy chairs. I'll also mention that they play fantastic music! A ton of Beatles, Paul McCartney, Elton John - the music I was raised with and love so much! And they played it at the perfect volume - not too loud!
Our server was absolutely, 100% fantastic! She was one of the best servers I've had in a while.
We started with the Butchery Board. This comes with the options of adding cheese. The meat by itself is $15 and adding cheese adds $16. Let me do that math for you - that's a $31 meat and cheese board! That the most expensive cheese board I've ever had. What we got was certainly well made and delicious. But in my opinion it wasn't worth $31. I feel like I know a few other restaurants in the city that can give me an even better plate and at a lower price point.
But moving on to happier things! The truffles burger is one of the best burgers in the city! The patty was seasoned like whah! It was bursting with flavor! And the sweetness of the caramelized onions paired perfectly! The only thing I would do differently next time is go with fries instead of chips. I did love the texture - extremely light and not overly hard. But they were very under seasoned. Perhaps I'd prefer the fries?
When we go back, I'll definitely do that burger all over again. But I'll skip the Butchery and Cheese plate to save room...
Read moreWe arrived late evening. The receptionist accommodate us near the service corner. Two other tables being served, quiet distant one from the other. The trout was delicious. Trout didn't need the added crab on top. Stakes were not as good. One of the stakes was flavorful given poured truffle oil, but then resulted in heartburn. We ordered a cheese board. The cheese selection was a bit of shared disappointment. Coffee at the end was a joy. Much better coffee than other restaurants. For a restaurant that pretends to be fine cuisine, service was really bad. 1) One of our guests asked the waiter to talk standing in front of him (this guest, besides having hearing difficulties, was wearing a neck collar). The waiter didn't follow this basic instruction, and the guest was unable to hear him. 2) I was asking for details on the butchery board when the waiter interrupted me and told us all to order drinks before anything else. We don't drink, and the intervention was felt as imposing. 3)The waiter read the menu to us and had otherwise little knowledge about its ingredients 4)The waiter couldn't read his handwriting, thus came back for clarification on one of the orders. Personally, I believe that even an old waiter can have a rough day. But a good waiter learns the menu before the start of a shift, and has a third sense to anticipate guests needs. A good waiter does not impose his rythm on guests. I was expecting a much better experience. Don't think we'll be coming back...
