My girlfriend & I went to the Blue Wing Saloon on July 24 2015. I know some locals of Upper Lake rant & rave about this establishment. We, however (and by reading some of these posts, other people as well) found the Blue Wing to be AWFUL! Let me explain why. 1st off, when we entered the hostess made us feel like she was doing us a favor simply by acknowledging us. She was snappy & we felt she was very rude. However, we resigned to the fact that everybody has a bad night, and decided since we made the trip from Willits we'd still not allow her to ruin our evening. I swear though, it seemed only to get far worse as the evening wore on. When the waiter arrived, after what seemed like an eternity & reeking of cigg-smoke, his demeanor was so unbelievably cocky. He seemed to demand that we order what (maybe) the specials were... we never did find out, only told that his favorite was basically the only entree on the menu. Then when my girlfriend requested a glass of wine, he asked for id. No problem, she had hers as I did. What happened next was truly messed up. The waiter became very defensive, and acted as if we were trying to get over on him somehow with a fake id (let me be clear, if we wanted to try a some fake id to drink, which by the by she's 26 & Im 31, we'd have went to a bar, not a restaurant). We both have very valid CA drivers lic.'s... anyway, after all of that bickering, he finally got her a glass of wine. And would you know when he came back he said, " Well, even if your id is fake, this aint no expensive wine..." HOW RUDE! At that point, we decided that we would tell everyone with a set of ears about this HORRIBLE experience we had at the Blue Wing Saloon located in Upper Lake; CA. I wouldn't let my dog eat there, let alone friends or family I have. I cant understand why any establishment that exists on a main drag of a tiny town (really a village tho, right?) which has as many empty buildings on that main st as businesses, would not treat EVERY guest as GOLD! This is one place Ill never step foot in even if I was dying of hunger and/or thirst. Ta' hell with the Blue Wing... folks, you have been warned... Maybe if your 50yrs or older, maybe you will be treated better. Seeing as though the entire staff that evening were younger, looking back at that night and our terrible experience, it still doesnt make much sense to either one of us... We came up with this though... maybe these kids running that place are so insulated/"clickish" that anybody UNDER the age of 50yrs is a threat... WOW... what a world we live in. Biggest waste of money, but NEVER again. I hope that place rots and goes out...
Read moreWe went for dessert and drinks. We told the bar tender when we came in and asked if we can sit outside with the music. We were forced to sit inside because only one waitress. No offer for us to wait 5-10 minutes while they cleaned the table. Bartender brought menus. Only had 1 dessert. When came to take our order she seemed annoyed I wasn't ready. She came back I asked if they had other dessert options. She left again annoyed. We ordered a port wine and a muscat dessert wine. She served the first red in a regular wine glass full glass. I saw her pour from a regular size bottle. It was not port. When I asked the bartender if it was the dessert she said it's the petite sirah port yea. The Muscat was not a dessert wine just a nice crisp lightly sweet white wine in a port style glass. They have a lot of local wines. She has no knowledge of wine. As she says wine is wine it's all the same. When the bill came and we questioned her charging us for a regular glass of petite surah not the dessert wine that we ordered she didn't wait for us to finish explaining she just took the charge off the bill. We left no tip for her. As we left she did her usual "good night thanks for coming". As we were walking down the street she stepped outside and chided "good night thanks for coming" then turned and talked to her co worker in front of the restaurant. Completely rude and horrible...
Read moreOur family had enjoyed a FANTASTIC dinner once before. Good grill, gourmet salads, a little overpriced, but very pleasant. I wanted to take my dad there one afternoon, so I called ahead to see if I needed reservations. A nice guy said not for two people; I stated we wanted to come for an afternoon meal.
Saloon comes before Restaurant at Blue WIng... We arrived at 3:00, were seated, and handed a lunch menu. When ready to order, we were told that there was NOTHING from the grill. Just appetizers and salads.
Blue Wing, just say that 3:00 to 4:00 is a no-grill zone over the phone please...This would have been nice to know AHEAD of time as we both were looking forward to a steak. It was difficult to re-mobilize my dad so we ate french fries and fried zucchini for supper that day. So weird to pay $40+ for missing the mark. We could not even get bread to go with our wine. Ended up cooking dinner at home anyway.
Willing to try them again, especially since it is the ONLY cafe in and around Upper Lake (unless you drive to...
