What a treat! You simply must stop at this quaint Amish country store in Iowa; it's a wonderful welcome center boasting Amish goodies. Whether you're driving through the great Midwest or visiting friends and family in the area, you're guaranteed to find something delicious for the road or unique gifts. I'm even inclined to do my Christmas shopping here because they carry all types of unique goods, gifts, treats, kitchenware, and pet treats!
Be sure to stop for a wholesome bite at the Maid-Rite diner and bakery. They offer homemade pies, burgers, donuts, beef sandwiches, hot dogs, wraps, cinnamon rolls, and broasted chicken. After a tasty meal, browse their selection of goods, including teas, sodas, chips, chocolates, pies, canned fruits, salsas, jams, honey, pickles, quilts, furniture, rugs, food mixes, spices and seasonings, and candies. While not all items may be Amish-made, there's still a huge selection of handmade goods to discover.
The restrooms were very well-kept, clean, and stocked with soap. You'll also find fresh bread at the counter, whimsical gifts, gorgeous landscaping, and opportunities for birdwatching. If you have pets with you, your dog can enjoy a reprieve in their fenced-in park. Additionally, there are plenty of Tesla charging stations and Adirondack chairs for you to sit and enjoy the outdoors after your meal.
Cons: If you have a gluten allergy or celiac disease, there's a limited selection of snacks for purchase. The store is rather cramped, but most aisles should be wheelchair accessible.
Service was excellent, and the staff was very helpful and friendly. There's so much to see here, so take a walk to the back of the store and don't forget to grab a fruit pie – I hear...

There is a candy section, jewelry, jarred jams, jelly, pickels, cider, and cookbooks. You’ll find souvenirs, toys, home decor areas, and a large kitchen area (tools, gadgets, dishes, storage containers, and bakèware). Read moreAlways stop at the Amish Country Store every October on my way to the Madison County Covered Bridge Festival. Nice selection of locally made items by Amish families. Also good variety of snacks. Beautiful homemade baskets. Love it that they have added a dog park out front and EV charging stations. Eight happy chickens live in a nice chicken coop next to the store. It's also important to be respectful of the buggy parking for the Amish families. Thank you Amish Country Store and Iowa...
