Well let me start by saying I was on way to Tryon with my family and stop to eat at this restaurant because it was somewhere we had not been to yet. I understand that it is a restaurant inside a house and that is fine but what we found out and experience is not. First they offer no soft drinks and for people who don't drink Tea I guess water is your option. Next we were greeted by the cashier or hostess don't know which to call her but said we are busy goona be awhile. Not much of a welcome. As we proceeded to the buffet it looked very good except they only had small pieces of chicken and some Sliced Pork Chunks which I thought they should have at least one more option. Not really a meat buffet. All the veggies looked very good until you put them in ur mouth. Hardly no flavor very flat but the kicker is that it was all cold. I'm talking about just like it come out of the fridge and was put on buffet. I looked for a microwave but did not see one and I explain to the attendant at the bar that the food was cold but 30 minutes later nothing changed and still cold. I guess they didn't care to much. I personally think everything was prepared days earlier and put in fridge and was just pulled out and put on buffet and I don't think it was heated at all. I mean COLD. The salad bar had about 5 items and nothing like on a normal salad bar. No eggs no cheese no tomato no veggies at all that I seen. No salad for me. The price also includes dessert and it was tasty but don't think it was made there. But was ok. I paid $85 for my family to eat there and had to apologize to my family for stopping here to eat for Sunday Lunch. Lots of improvements needed. Maybe we caught them in a bad day. I don't know but it did make our decision to not eat here again or suggest this restaurant to any of our friends. If u want to eat here I suggest looking at the buffet first and check temperature on food. And water or Tea to drink....
Read moreWe had a grand experience at Staxâs Drake House Restaurant! The staff was welcoming and friendly. There's no secret when it comes to getting weird looks when visiting certain restaurants, but not at the Drake in Landrum, so it truly made us glad we accepted the offer when invited by our friends! Now let's eat~ oh my, the food was fresh and well-presented! We were informed of their famous fried chicken, and it was fabulous. Crispy, well-flavored, and juicy on the inside. The white fish meets its match as well. All sides were homemade (green beans, pinto beans, mashed potatoes, cream corn, collards, mac & cheese, etc.) My favorite was the salad bar and homemade spinach chicken soup, which had a Western flare and a nice kick of spice that nipped a the tongue. Desserts change daily, so this visit brought forth choices from bourbon bread pudding, coconut cake, lemon pound cake topped with homemade strawberry jam topping, & an apple bread pudding! The lemon pound cake was fluffy and reminded me more of a cake than a pound cake yet was amazing. I was not a huge fan of the bourbon pudding since I wanted more of a loose consistency to absorb each section as flavors came together as a whole. I could not taste the butter, not the flavor of bourbon due to it being one large lump of heavy conjoined dough, but if one is looking for a heavy consistency it could be a great choice. Today, my favorite was the lemon pound cake! Thanks for a wonderful heartwarming welcome. It will definitely be on our list of places to visit in the future. The hospitality we received was greatly...
Read moreFirst time here. My hubby raves about the place. I loved the "home" feel of the place. It's an older home which made the atmosphere more inviting. They have lovely decor and outside seating. If u don't get there at the right time, parking may be an issue. I had to make my own cuz the hubby couldn't walk that far. Our waitress was OUTSTANDING!! I don't remember her name, but very sweet and attentive she had blonde hair and I believe she's been working there for a long time. The food; I was a little disappointed in the fried chicken, it looked overcooked and tasted like it was cooked in old grease/oil. But the inside was nice and moist, and the biscuits looked like cornbread muffins but they were very hard, I try a little meatloaf which was moist but had lots of pepper, then I tried a bite of Hawaiian pork(which looked like pepper steak you get from Chinese) it was good. My favorites were the carrots and mashed potatoes (I had to go back for a 2nd helping they were so good). They had other items on the buffet like rice, green beans(đ), cream corn, Mac n Ch, đ and a few others. After the meal, they brought ur dessert of choice. I would have preferred a little bit bigger helping. The waitress did say hubby could have another one for $2. Overall it was a nice place to enjoy lunch alone or with friends or family. They were busy. I will be back! Thanks Michael for your hospitality, you were nice and kind and wonderful...
