Definitely one of the best sub (or wrap, any sandwich can be made into a wrap) shops around. Ignore the appearance of the parking lot, the present owners appear to have inherited the worn down (no pot holes) appearance of the parking lot from the last owner of the building. The building itself is clean, and been touched up. This place is always busy around 1200, and for good reason. The staff are friendly, quick, and keep that place almost immaculate. The sandwiches are loaded with meat, and the ingredients never feel to be low quality. They also have the best tasting wheat bread around. Seating is limited, but then again this is a small sub shop.
My typical experience: walk in, and wait briefly in line. While waiting, the staff may give an expressly friendly greeting to you (especially if you are a regular.) I order a Large "King" (their flagship sub, has almost every one of their meats on it) on wheat. Quickly select from one of their three cheeses, and the sub gets moved over to the veggie area. I get asked "What do you want on your sub, boss?" And I have that loaded, then have sweet onion dressing and chipotle dressing (delicious combo) added. Top it off with a sprinkle of oregano, and have it toasted. Best eaten immediately, but still...
Read moreWhen you walk into King Subs that pure delight smell hits you immediately. It's one of those pleasures you tend to get at locally owned shops like this, but don't get at chains and is a great signal of quality. From here the experience only gets better.
I walked into the KS for the first time today and had a little trouble figuring out what to get at first I went With a 13, but I really considered making a custom sandwich, which the the sandwich smith suggested (I think he was the owner because of the pride he showed in the food, which is always a good sign.)
From here everytome he said something else I got more excited. "We make our own soups in house, do you want to try the sweet onion sauce? We make it here, would you like it cold or in the panini press?" 🤤🤤🤤
If you like local sandwich shops, or hole in the wall delis or if you just consider yourself a sandwich person do yourself a favor and...
Read moreJust spent three days in the office in Lansing. I live in Kalamazoo, and thought I'd check out some Lansing-based goodness. I felt like legit sub sandwiches (i.e., not Subway), and I found King Subs on Google, but zero online presence, so I called to see about their menu. The owner confirmed zero online presence, and literally read me the entire menu, impressing upon me how they bake their own bread daily, and how the meats and cheeses are the best anywhere. I decided to check that claim, and he was not lying. The meats and cheese were sliced fresh as I waited. I had roast beef and pastrami on wheat with Swiss cheese, and I was not at all unhappy. Nothing fancy but ridiculously cheap, ridiculously good, and I'm glad I rolled up there and found it. ...
