Little Vinny's Cafe & Lounge — Restaurant in Laurie

Went in for lunch with family who stays in the area and suggested it. Had a basic hamburger and fries. The burger was flavorful and the veggies for burger toppings were fresh. Others in my party were also happy with their food. One had the special which was a chicken bowl. Portion was huge. Other had ham and cheese sandwich. I was shocked to see that the ham was actually a ham steak. Not just lunch meat ham. It looked great! The bartender was the only server there, taking care of the entire bar full of people with food and drinks. Although he seemed a bit rushed he still had a friendly attitude. The only downside for me was the smoking. I live in a state that doesn’t allow smoking in bars or restaurants so I was surprised when I walked in to that smell. I’m not a smoker so yes, I would prefer a non-smoking atmosphere but it wouldn’t keep me from coming back. It was a friendly place with good food. I would visit again when...

I really don't understand why the locals keep this place going. I had eaten here 4 years ago and had much the same impression then as I did now. Food is reminiscent of cafeteria food from when I was growing up. The green beans were lukewarm and straight from the can and our baked potatoes weren't quite done. The salad bar selection was meager. I tried the broccoli salad (tasteless and watery) and the pea salad was forgettable. I tried a small serving of the 'Mexican soup' and it was actually tasty. I had the catfish and it was OK. Our friends were unimpressed as well. The waitress was good. The atmosphere is tired and the place smells like stale cigarette smoke. I can't believe that we have owned a home at the Lake of the Ozarks for 10 years and the week that we are selling- we found Vinny's. What a gem??? The food is fabulous and I mean fabulous. Our bill was $27.28, my husband had a cheeseburger and fries.( I guarantee this is a 1 pound burger)- Special thanks to our waitress that warned him about the size when he tried to order a double cheeseburger. I had the catfish, with potatoes and mixed veggies. It also came with Wisconsin Cheddar soup. We both had soft drinks. This is good home/ country cooking for a better than great price.
