We have given Asian Riverside Kitchen three opportunities, and it fell seriously flat on two of our three visits. Overall, most of the food is bland and disappointing. Certainly not worth the money that we paid. I'll detail our visits below:
#1: The menu mentioned that veggies and pineapple came with the food. When it came out on the plate, there was a pile of tiny pieces of chicken that were way overcooked and dry. No veggies or pineapple in sight. The crab rangoon were actually not bad, because they came out piping hot. As they cooled down though, the outer bits seemingly went stale, but the cream cheese filling was still good. Overall, not impressed, but we gave them the benefit of the doubt, given that we were there a week after their "soft open".
#2: We ordered sushi to-go. This time everything was pretty good. Nice portions and evenly distributed ingredients throughout the rolls. 8ish out of 10!
#3: The better parts; Banh Bao was decent in flavor, but the ratio of bun to pork was way off and the bun was tough to chew. The chicken fried rice was decent, but very greasy.
The bad parts; the orange chicken was honestly a disaster. The chicken and orange sauce had cooled to the point that it was all one congealed, bland glob. I had to pry the chicken apart from each other. When I took a bite, there wasn't much to comment on. After a few more bites, I had to be done with it. One of the two scoops of steamed rice was okay. A couple dry grains on top. The other was the worst. I ran my fork over top of the rice, and it made a scraping sound being so dry. I tried to take the dried layer off, then got a bite that was nearly the consistency of mashed potatoes. I immediately spit it out and was done with everything. We kept the crab rangoon and threw away everything else. Which is insane because this meal was $45!!!! Nothing about this meal says "$45". Absolutely disappointed, to say the very least.
Long story short; IF we go back, it will only be...
Read moreThis restaurant is located in a beautiful area with the view of Mississippi river. The interior is also very fancy and comfortable. The food is not authentic Vietnamese but Americanized Vietnamese food, however, still super delicious. They also have sushi and American Chinese food. Everything is excellent, except for the staff. I appreciate that she did come to ask if everything was alright and refilled the water. However, I was very sad that she never bothered to have a smile with us although she chatted and laughed a lot with her coworkers/ sisters. I was a bit scared of her cold and distancing attitude. Anyway, I only stopped by here during my road trip and may not come back Iowa very soon, so I may not have a chance to revisit this restaurant. But I do hope that you can improve on the staff service as it is the only missing part. Except for that, this restaurant is amazing and deserves more...
Read morerecently ordered from here , and it was a huge letdown. The lo mein was basically just spaghetti noodles—overcooked, mushy, and barely seasoned, with no trace of that classic savory flavor. The Mongolian chicken was dry as a bone, tasteless, and lacked any of the bold, spicy kick you’d expect. Worst of all, the fried rice was just a sad pile of yellow rice, no peas, no eggs, no flavor—just a bland, greasy mess. Nothing about this meal felt like authentic Chinese. The egg rolls was like a spring roll.. no cabbage/veggies.. not an egg roll at all.. and charging 8 for them.. we couldn’t...
