Unlike any diner I’ve ever been to. I overheard some comments from a local advising they had made the diner smaller but no explanation as to why. No one shows you to a table-there is no waitlist- it’s: peruse the diner and find a spot that will accommodate your party-then grab it while you can. This was a very interesting process for our group of 6 - with 4 of us 6ft tall!!!!….hehe Ok now-the menus are on a metal stand on the table- so we grabbed them and started determining what we would eat. There was no waitstaff in sight…. Hmmmmm. We were ravenous…and another guest advised that after you grab your table—-you must get in line to order…….from one staff member who was at the front counter by the door. Our table was the last one at the end of the opposite door. So 3 of us went and got in line. Honestly, this felt like ambiance to me! Once in line- we chatted with a local couple which was very nice. We finally made it up to the counter, where a very nice woman was very patient and took our order. I also had to grab a rubber spatula that was there labeled with the name of a place & their phone number as I consider that a souvenir thatI will use. They have a little area up where you can get your own glasses of water which we did. Only one of us wanted soda we each ordered something different…… The top two dishes were a chicken breast steak and a baked potato and a Houlihan jalapeño burger with curly fries . The middle of the road dish was the cheesesteak sandwich that was loaded with Ooey- gooey cheesy goodness and meat and onions & peppers. My fish sandwich just didn’t hit the spot-but the fries were good-last but not least was the “mom‘s meatloaf” which didn’t look at all like any meatloaf we had ever eaten. It was a large thin piece of mystery meat with brown gravy. My d-I-l was so disappointed. Her mashed potatoes were good and a side of cream gravy made them even better. Everybody who had biscuits also said they were delicious so lots of ups and downs with this meal. We were determined to try their famous milkshakes and that’s where this diner really shined !!!! we all have different flavors and they were all absolutely delicious and made on the vintage Hamilton Beach Milkshake Machine that made about six shakes at once. The menu is extensive so really this is a very small sampling of everything they had to offer. If we had been there a little longer, we would have returned to Try some of their other meals. We definitely had a good time in our corner booth, watching black and white TV with the Three Stooges playing. We could also see the life-size Elvis, plasticized and playing a guitar -definitely a...
Read moreI've been wanting to come here for a long time because of the iconic look and good things I have heard, but the parking lot is usually packed, and I was never hungry enough to stop. I finally made it around 4:30 PM on Saturday, October 26th, and it was not busy. We were greeted and seated, and there were not very many people there at the time. We were a party of 7, with 4 separate orders. You have to go to the counter to order and they bring the food to you. We ordered 5 milkshakes between us, and there was one person making them and delivering them to the tables. She brought the first two, which were a vanilla and an Oreo shake, which she identified as such. A few minutes later, she brought a chocolate and a peanut butter chocolate. So far, so good. After a few more minutes, we enquired where the last one was, and it was finally delivered by another server, but it was another Oreo instead of a chocolate that was ordered, so we sent it back. The woman making them then came over and tried to argue that she had already made it and delivered it first with the vanilla, which was not true. There was only one Oreo shake ordered, and it came out first. When I told her that, she got angry and huffed away. It took about 10 minutes to finally get the chocolate, and she was visibly angry and slammed it on the table. She had long pigtails and tattoos on her arms, and I did not get her name. Other than that, the burgers were average. Not bad, but not worth coming back for. The fried cheese sticks were big, planko breaded, but just average and tasted like they came out of a box from the freezer. The interior was nice and a good throwback to the past, and we did enjoy that. The shakes were delicious, but we could have done without the attitude that came with them. They did get slammed about the same time this was happening, but it's no reason to argue about getting the order wrong. It was not busy when we arrived. I can now say that I've been there but will not...
Read moreNot sure why this says rooms and location, but 2 stars for food, 3 for service and 4 for atmosphere. The food was actually kind of disappointing. I ordered the mushroom burger and fries. Mushroom and Swiss burgers typically are just that, however mine came with lettuce, tomato and onion on it. That's fixable easily enough, but they also added a fry sauce to the bun and that sauce took over the taste. The first bite I didn't even taste the mushrooms, just tomato, sauce and burger. So I stripped it down and finished it. Also the burger patty was clearly a frozen patty from somewhere like Costco, pre molded and not charbroiled. It was still all beef but a place like this and for $20 I'd expect a fresh made patty. The service when ordering was good! The woman at the register was very friendly and they even have a milkshake donation fund for the firefighters (there tends to be a lot of fires in the dry woods of eastern Washington). So we bought two milkshakes for the firemen and she gave us a very nice 59er Diner sticker for free. The service took a dip when our food was ready. Another worker opened the window on the side and yelled out our names repeatedly. When I went up to get the food she looked almost annoyed that she had to give it to me. There wasn't any pleasantry about it. The outdoor seating was alright but looked more like someone's back yard. The tables had shade umbrellas which was nice, but I think there's some more work to be done there. The inside was very cool, a complete throwback diner complete with old appliances, photos and nicknacks from the 50s and 60s. Music and everything. This is a cool place to see and experience but sadly since the food wasn't on par I would call it a...
