Worth the 4-Hour Drive? Absolutely.
Call us crazy (we’ve been called worse), but yes—we drove four hours just to eat here. Why? It all started with a t-shirt. My wife spotted some clever merch from this place, got curious, did some digging, and next thing we know—we’re headed to Decks and Docks for a lakeside food adventure.
We rolled up around 4:00 p.m. on a Saturday and the parking lot was slammed. Always a good sign. The place itself? Very cool. True to its name, the restaurant sits right on Weiss Lake, with half the seating on a breezy upper deck and a lower dock bar where you can pull up in your boat like a lakeside VIP.
We grabbed a table on the deck under an umbrella, ordered a couple draft beers, and kicked things off with a massive basket of onion rings. These weren’t your average freezer-to-fryer kind either—handmade, crispy perfection. Easily some of the best we’ve had.
For the main event, I dove into the Shrimp Juicy Boil ($24.99). It came in a boil bag and pan with all the fixings, and it was delicious. Could’ve used a little more heat for my taste, but it was still a flavor-packed feast. Bonus: it was a LOT of food. I left stuffed.
My wife debated between the Mango Habanero Burger (highly recommended) and the local favorite: Citrus Pineapple Grilled Chicken Sandwich. She went with the chicken ($13.99) and raved about every bite. Tangy, juicy, tropical—she was very pleased with her choice.
Our server (whose name we unfortunately didn’t catch) was fantastic—super attentive and friendly without hovering. Everyone working there seemed genuinely happy to be part of the experience, which made us happy too.
Cool touch: at the bottom of the menu, there’s a note that says, “Enjoy your food? Buy the kitchen a round of after-shift beers (6 for $6).” Loved that. We bought them two rounds. They earned it.
The whole area around the lake is beautiful and now we’re seriously considering planning another trip just to spend more time here. And yes—we left with one of those quirky t-shirts that started this whole journey.

Read moreMy family and I chose to eat at Decks and Docks to support a local business over a chain restaurant. We ate there on Saturday May 30th and my wife's burger came out cold. The server was great to offer to remove it from our check. We also spent roughly another $100 on tshirts. We decided to give them another try today. We patiently waited the 45min wait, then patiently waited yet another roughly 30mins or so to get our food. When the food came out is was too cold to eat..ALL 4 PLATES! The server was super understanding and got the manager. The manager came out and said the owner offered us half off to eat our cold food or to remake it in 5 mins. Of course we took the remake offer. We ate our food paid our full price, tipped the server and left the restaurant. As we walked out my wife ran into a high school friend. We stood there catching up with her and the owner came out and yelled at me directly asking if I was standing out front telling people not to eat there because it sucked!!!! Everyone that was standing there told him that no such thing happened. He then directed us all to leave his property. He also blamed us the patrons of his establishment for HIS FOOD BEING COLD..BECAUSE APPARENTLY WE WERE THE EXCEPTION TO THE RULE FOR HIS ESTABLISHMENT. THAT OUT OF ALL OF THE CUSTOMERS THAT EAT THERE WE JUST HAPPENED TO BE THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO WERE SERVED FOOD THAT WOULD GET HIM SHUT DOWN BY HEALTH DEPARTMENT STANDARDS!!! 2 DAYS IN A ROW I MIGHT ADD..Where was the guy who was sitting there telling us to leave yesterday because his pizza was inedible?..HMMMMM?? Serving food that missed the microwave on it's way to us is no way to operate. And then yelling at 2 families with small children in the parking lot and telling them to leave over something that wasn't even true! Shame!! I will hold my word that my family will NEVER return to this...
Read moreTonight was our families first & last time to eat here, unfortunately. Firstly, I'd like to say that our server was on point & attentive - she kept our drinks filled & did her job well. Our issue is with the management/owner, however. I wanted the Pantoon Nachos as my meal & asked my server if I could pay to have pulled pork BBQ added to them. Our server said that the owner informed all of the staff to stop modifying meals for guest's effective immediately; no exceptions. I imagine that some people were probably asking for ridiculous things that were costing the restaurant in food costs -however- I found it odd that the manager refused to charge me for adding something - that means more money! And while I can certainly respect that it is their call at the end of the day, perhaps this decision should be made on a case to case basis rather than a black & white rule that ostracises patrons. After all, it would have meant more money in the owners pocket. So I confusingly asked, "Okay? Well I want pork BBQ so maybe I can have the Hickery Fries basket with nacho chips instead of fries? I'll pay for them extra if I need to." Nope. The manager/owner still refused to do it. It's unfortunate that I have read many reviews where the owner allegedly told guests "I don't need your business" when questions or concerns with guest's experiences were brought up. I've been a small business owner for over a decade - so I can't imagine speaking to anyone who chose to do business with me like this simply because they were disappointed with something. Hopefully this doesn't fall on deaf ears. Please consider the willingness of future guest's to pay for something you offer - or perhaps consider offering nachos with pulled pork BBQ as well? I saw that your menu has changed often...
