Having moved from SoCal to Lenhartsville in 2020, in the middle of the Pandemic, the Husband and I havent had a restaurant meal in what seemed like an eternity. Since we are both fully vaccinated, we decided last week Friday it's time for our first date night, including a sit-down meal and opted for C.J.Hummels, right in town.
We've driven by this place I think 100 times since we moved here but had no idea how big it is, nor did we know there is a huge parking lot behind it. Walking into the place we had a WOW moment.
We were brought to a table right away, and just as quickly were asked to move elsewhere due to a large family waiting to be seated together. We are super easy about things like that, so no problem, and we got a nice, large table in a much more open room. Apparently this part of the restaurant is a bar, complete with slot machines and a pool table and large dining tables scattered throughout as well. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Actually, everyone in the place was very friendly!
The menu is extensive. Grilled food, seafood, sandwiches, soup....there is a lot to read. Luckily, it didn't taken too long for us; we opted for seafood platters as we don't eat meat or poultry. The servings were large, the food was cooked thoroughly and tasted very good. Looking at what other people ordered, this place offers a lot of "comfort food," in generous portions; most people were leaving with big containers.
Since it was a "real date night," we also each had an adult beverage. The husband had a locally-brewed IPA and I had a cocktail. Both were brought to the table quickly and really hit the spot.
Since we are used to Southern California prices, we were surprised at our bill considering the large amount of food on our plates and the drinks we had ordered--VERY reasonable!
For such a small town in rural PA, C.J. Hummels was a pleasant surprise. We will certainly be visiting again. Thanks for making our first night out such a...
Read moreIt has been at least 10 years since I’ve eaten here at Cj Hummels, due to the fact that I had moved to Wisconsin in that time. Now that I finally have moved back to the area, I felt it was appropriate for me to finally give the food a go today since I was passing by that area, and decided to get take out. Now, I will be honest, I could be a tad bit biased since I myself used to work at this restaurant as a dishwasher, then a cook in my early working years, but I will say this, the food still does not disappoint! I did try to order my general comfort food from CJ Hummels which was this areas known dish of Honey dipped Chicken (one of the best fried chicken recipes by the way) but unfortunately the were out of said dish (no surprise because of how good it is). So instead I got myself a Medium rare Ribeye steak and fresh cut fries. Now I have a decent trek back home, so of course I was going to have to reheat my food, but nothing an air fryer and a toaster oven can’t fix. Even with the reheating, the steak was spot on and delicious, and the fries were perfectly crisp and soft at the same time! As for the atmosphere (though I didn’t stay too long) was still quite homey and a comfortable vibe to the whole place! It definitely seems that some of the place has been re-renovated from what I remember 10 years ago, but it looks much roomier! The staff definitely is courteous and kind spirited as usual, despite it being a bunch of new faces that I’m not particularly familiar with from 10 years ago, but people come and go, and that hasn’t taken away from the general feel of vibe that CJ Hummels has to offer! All in all, I will completely recommend eating here, or at least getting take out! Thank you for a great meal guys and keep up the...
Read moreLet me first say I have been going to Hummel's since I was in 7th grade growing up right outside of Lenhartsville. I was also in the restaurant business for 30+ years. It saddens me to say that the place that I have such fond memories of walking into town just to get a cheeseburger and a milkshake from, has fell into the same mentality as most corporate casual dining establishments have fallen into......profit over product. Let me explain. My wife and I both ordered the crabcake sandwich platter for 10.00, it came on a regular size bun but the crabcake was half the size of the bun, and only came with a side of chips. My unsweetened tea was far the worst tasting tea I have ever had, not to mention the cost of 3.59. The house salad, which was an upcharge for replacing the chips consisted of iceberg lettuce, about 4 cherry tomatoes and croutons with a 2oz souffle of dressing. My wife got a side of French fries as an upcharge for her chips. So for 2 crabcake sandwiches a very plain house salad, an order of French fries and two drinks our total was just shy of 49 dollars and some change. The staff are very friendly and provide a comfortable atmosphere , but I believe that will be my last visit to the place I was so fond...
