Sweet Retreat TX — Restaurant in Liberty Hill

This was my first time visiting and I felt robbed walking out. First impression wasn’t good given they were sold out of 2/3 of their flavors and they had like 30 or so total. Ok, I tell myself it must be good. They just don’t know how to plan stock of their product or had an unforeseen instance take place so I carry on. I then order the two scoop sundae which the sign clearly says two scoops of ice cream + three toppings for $7.99. The young lady asks what toppings I want before I choose my ice cream and I ask if whipped cream is a topping and she says yes. I then ask for a list of remaining topping choices since that isn’t posted anywhere and choose two more after hearing what they have. I then choose my ice cream and upon receiving my sundae which appeared pretty standard and go to check out the young lady advises it’ll be $11.36. It caught me off guard because we go from $7.99 plus tax to $11.36 total. Holy airball. I ask the girl how we got to the total and she looks at it again and says it’s correct. I’m sorry, is there some rare earth mineral hidden in my sundae I don’t know about?!? Anyway, she neglected to tell me when I asked if whipped cream is a topping it would be $0.50 extra and for some reason she was ringing me up for two scoops at $2.00 which I assume are extra scoops because I thought this sundae already had two scoops of ice cream. I mentioned to her it sure is deceiving to go from $7.99 before taxes to $11.36 after and she kinda laughs it off. Needless to say I won’t be back because I don’t want to be...

This old-fashioned ice cream shop in Liberty Hill has quickly become one of my top favorite sweet treat spots. Not only is it absolutely adorable inside with nostalgic charm and cozy decor but it’s also run by the kindest local family who bring warmth and care to every visit.

They proudly serve premium ice cream from the Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Company based in Madison, Wisconsin and it’s next-level delicious. The flavors are as bold and creative as they are indulgent. Some favorites? 🍨 HEAPS OF LOVE – vanilla ice cream packed with Oreos®, brownies, cookie dough, pecans, caramel & chocolate swirls 🍌 FAT ELVIS – banana ice cream all shook up with salty peanut butter & chocolate chips 🍓 KITTY KITTY BANG BANG™ – cheesecake ice cream swirled with raspberry, Oreos® & chocolate chunks ☕ EXHAUSTED PARENT® – bourbon-spiked espresso ice cream with bittersweet chocolate chunks (yes, please!!)

I was there for the grand opening visiting family with my sister & my mom. This was certainly a treat! The atmosphere was great & the decor so cute & well designed. You can tell that a lot of thought was put into making it inviting & family oriented. People were talking about how excited they were to have an ice cream shoppe close by. One dad was there with his little family & said that his wife had been following the local news on the history of the shoppe's owner & that they were so glad it finally opened & loved the ice cream. I live in California near a popular old fashion ice cream shoppe where a "small" sundae is $12.99 & a 3 scoop sundae is $15.00. Baskin Robbins double scoop here is $11.00 & that's ice cream only (not even a sundae!) so for us, the price was more than reasonable, especially for premium ice cream. I'm lactose intolerant & this ice cream didn't upset my stomach like most others do. Sweet Retreat Tx beats all the others! I loved the Exhausted Parent & the Zanzibar Mint! I sampled a few others including the Carrot Mango which was so good (don't let the name fool you)! All of the flavors I sampled were really good, to the point that making a choice was not easy! Now that I'm home & craving ice cream, I'll have to settle for 2nd best until I can go back to visit family & make a special trip back to Sweet Retreat Tx again!
