Hey everybody! This is the BEST place to eat fish! Everything is handcrafted right there in house. They do not buy frozen breaded okra they do everything fresh. The restaurant was very clean, clean bathrooms too which is a plus! The staff and the owner were all very friendly and professional throughout my visit. The beer was ice cold and was served in a iced glass too. I think the owners name was Bobby, he was a terrific host to all the customers and they were at full capacity. Staff practiced social distancing and wire masks the whole time. My friend Shelton and I both had the half fried catfish nuggets & half fried shrimp in my basket with the French fries & hush puppies that came with our order. They give you choices of coke slaw as well as other sides! All was hand battered & fried by the CHEF all done fresh to your order. The "shrimp was medium sized, very fresh like the ocean, juicy & plump not LITTLE like most places will try to slide by serving you. The side I had hot sauce & their handcrafted tarter sauce. Nothing they served was greasy like I have seen everywhere else that serves fish. The oil they fried our fish in was obviously clean & fresh because it all was the best I have ever had anywhere! Their menu offers coconut rice, gumbo, and other new Orleans type dishes all of which I am anxious to try! I am going back on Friday to gorge myself again by trying several other dishes they offer there. I highly recommend "the Fish Market" the serving sizes are ample the food is great and the atmosphere is comfortable and casual. I love this place! A special "Thank You" to my friend & love of my life, Shelton Ponder for taking me there for a real treat! I had eaten half of my dish before I took these pictures we were...
Read moreI can’t truly begin to explain how good this was as I don’t have the words for it. This is a very unsuspecting small locally owned and operated establishment a diamond in the rough if you will. It is exactly what I want to see in a place such as this. Very home hearth feeling with a fun side. Tucked away by the river one would never know what treasures await them there. The food all made to order fresh “never frozen” seafood and land fare. Worth the wait. Service cheerful and happy but not annoyingly bubbly. House made sauces and side are awesome. We had the daily double which was like a sampler platter type. We got the gator, shrimp, chicken , and catfish. Our sides were double fries, potato salad, and slaw. We also ordered crab cake, hushpuppies, and a cup of jambalaya (very large portion glad we didn’t say bowl) all were great and some with their own spin on side dishes. Everything was well portioned and more than the three of us could eat. We also had jalapeño cornbread and the strawberry cake (get the cake you wont be disappointed) it is served cold. Bad sides; If they are super busy parking can be hard to find, bathrooms are single person but relatively clean. They do have a small bar as well with signature drinks. I recommend you try it, if you’re in a hurry go during non peak hours to avoid parking issues or a long wait. I wouldn’t recommend large parties and if you do have maybe call ahead to see if they can accommodate as seating is kinda limited due to the size of...
Read moreAfter reading so many good reviews, my other half and I decided to try The Fish Market since we live in the Liberty area. We elected to pick up a couple of meals to enjoy at home. It was her treat that evening and I selected the catfish dinner and she selected the gulf shrimp. I also selected a serving of red beans and rice.
Upon returning home, we sat at the table anticipating a yummy meal. It turned out to be one of the worst experiences ever. The cat fish wasn't a filet. Instead, it was a pile of breaded fish tidbits, more akin to small chicken nuggets. The result is an enormous ratio of breading to fish. Worse, the breading was mushy instead of crisp. Being small chunks rather than a fillet strongly suggests their fish are merely cheap fish scraps.
My partner's gulf shrimp was an equally huge disappointment. She lived many years in Florida and never saw gulf shrimp like this outfit serves. It might be gulf shrimp but it sure isn't from the Gulf of Mexico. More likely it's from the Gulf of Tonkin Vietnam. It was tiny popcorn shrimp and mushy as well.
Then she told me the cost of this bundle. It was $60. $60!!! We could have eaten at McCormick & Schmick's for that price!
For all the good reviews for the Fish Market, I can only say anyone who thinks this place is good has never had good fish. I'll never go there again....
