My family and I have been dining at Beer Barrel for many years. Spending a lot of money in there over those years. Tonight was a awful night. Which would have been fine accept the fact that the manager on this evening deflected the situation, told us we had too high of standard and paid no mind to our concerns. Didn’t even offer a measly discount for our frustration. Anything would have been fine and made us feel valued. When the waitress tried to offer a employee discount, which she felt was totally warranted, he wouldn’t let her do it because he told her, “he came and talked to us and we understood.” No sir, you came to us unwillingly and after we’ve about finished our food. The waitress had already offered the employee discount and we were satisfied with whatever that would have been, so we didn’t make any bigger issue out of it when he came around. If we had known he would decline the discount we would have spoken up more to him. But I had already told him that we had waited for our food for what felt like an hour and he came back and told us, “we’ll you’ve been in here for 49 mins and I think that is a reasonable time.” Are you kidding me? What clock are you watching? We had those sitting beside us that came in way after us get there food and finish it before we even received ours. We are so disappointed in this facility tonight. More so the manager. His excuse for why we had to wait, which it sounded like he thought we didn’t wait long to begin with, was that they aren’t a burger joint and didn’t have enough room on the grill. By the time we got our food, most of the tables had cleared out! Even if that was the case, HE should have came while we were waiting and told us what the issue was, we would have been more then understanding and felt like they knew we were waiting. Unfortunately, the way we were treated tonight made us feel like we were forgotten. The waitress herself said it was unacceptable and should have never happened. Why is it the manager didn’t feel the same way? You obviously have a handful of people feeling one way but you’re the only one saying different. This manager, Isaiah, left a really bad taste in our mouth for this facility and I’m not sure we will continue eating here if this is how the managers treat frequent customers. His sorry excuses didn’t help the situation, it only justified himself in his own eyes so he didn’t have any comps on his shift. Well, now you’ve got reviews to deal with. Do better. Train better. The manager justified himself in person and on the phone so not much more I can say about this or to this place. We tried to allow them space to validate our concerns but it was neglected twice by...
Read more(Lunch time 7/20/19) Wow! Simply, Wow! We planned a trip from Indiana to the Ohio Caverns and we always like to try new places to eat, so I Googled pizza places in Lima and Beer Barrel Pizza popped up. The name was intriguing and the pictures of the pizza and reviews told us we had to stop here.
Initially we were suspect about the service because several reviews stated it was slow. What we discovered, however, was things ordered from the deep fryer were pretty quick, but if you order a pizza it does take a while. Why? Because it's delicious! What we got was a well crafted, picture perfect pizza that was to die for. Well worth the extra time! They also have an awesome beer selection which paired nicely with our food. The garlic knots were very soft, warm and full of flavor. The garlic butter dipping sauce was outstanding.
Jayred was our server and overall did a great job for as busy as they were. He was attentive and engaging and took good care of us. He brought us a box for our pizza and let us take care of it. With the size of the pizza pan and the box, there wasn't room for both on the table. I figured this was a good time to see who would step up and help so I balanced the empty pan on my hand at the edge of the table to see who would help out. There were two girls that walked by and saw it but ignored it. Pretty soon another server walked up and offered to take it so I didn't have to hold it. I didn't catch his name, but i do know he was working the tables across the room and went out of his way to help. So "Thank you" to him. Beer Barrel Pizza is an awesome place and we will be sure to stop again next time we are in...
Read moreBeer Barrel is a good place to come for lunch or dinner.
They have a great new outdoor seating area. There is actual patio seating, plus an indoor/outdoor room with windows that push together like an accordian, off to one side. There are also retractable awnings to provide more shade. The only drawback to sitting in the outdoor area is that this is where the smokers go to hang out. One minute you will be enjoying a nice, fresh breeze and the next you will be enhaling second-hand smoke. I realize you will probably find this at nearly any restaurant with outdoor seating, but it is still a big drawback.
There is now more than one fireplace in this restaurant, so it is a nice place to dine during the winter too. Also, they play classic rock from the 70s and 80s here, which I like. The decor is also fun to look at while you're eating.
The most important thing about any restaurant is the food, and the food here is good. I've eaten here many times over a number of years and the only thing I remember being disappointed with was a fish and chips basket I got a few years ago.
This time I ordered a two-topping 10" pizza and a peach royale martini (off the happy hour menu). Both were very good. The service was also prompt...
