I hate to give such a negative review but boy we had a doozy of a time at Cafe C’est La Vie. We arrived around 11:15, were seated immediately, and ordered some coffees. Coffees came out and were fine, no complaints there. When our waitress came back we ordered a farm crepe, and I tried to order the crab melt. No crab it turns out, the waitress says it’s seasonal, I guess that makes sense, I don’t know anything about crabs. The waitress offers the melt with either shrimp or salmon to substitute the crab. I opt for the salmon. She heads to the kitchen to submit the order, and comes back promptly to inform me that there is also no salmon available.
At this point, I’m somewhat displeased with the restaurant, but I soldier on. Since I didn’t want shrimp, and the other two seafood options were unavailable. I order the Le Citron and the baked eggs. The waitress then informs me that the baked eggs will be about 25 minutes, as they take the longest on the menu to prepare. I cancel the order on the baked eggs, and just go for the sweet crepe. I kinda figure I’ll just have the crepe to hold me over and grab some food somewhere else at this point.
We then notice that most of the patrons who were at the restaurant before us don’t have any of their food. Nobody is eating aside from one couple who has about 6 plates brought out to them over the course of the time we’re there. Then, we hear the waitress talking to another couple saying that the head chef had to step out to go buy Swiss cheese from the store. Concerned, I inquire with the waitress about whether or not our order has been started, as it’s now about noon and we’ve been seated for about 45 minutes. She says she’ll check with the kitchen. She comes back and says it will be another 20 minutes before our food is out.
We pay for our coffees and leave, I just had a delicious crab cake at Kyllo’s, turns out they’re not out of season 10 minutes down the road.
The staff was very polite and friendly, the restaurant seems poorly...
Read morePenelope Jane Perez makes great crepes but is snotty, rude, and condescending. The atmosphere is nice, except for Penelope. But she DOES make the best crepes. If you eat there, try not to make eye contact with the owner. She’s so rude it’s criminal…
EDIT: she cyberstalks and harasses her 1-star reviews. Beware. I would love to have her continue her success at the business she’s created for herself, but she has proven that she IS rude to the point of actually BEING criminal. She’d better hope for the sake of preventing it from becoming a legal matter that she’s the sole perpetrator of the online harassment. Heads up, people.
And to Penelope herself: you would go very far in life if you treated your associates with DIGNITY & RESPECT. You EARNED the 1-star review due to your rotten demeanor & attitude. Let that be a lesson. JUST TREAT PEOPLE NICER. That’s all you have to do. There’s no need for your social ugliness. Carry on ~ but with more quiet & reserved humility, and I just might change this review for the better. In fact, you know what? I’m a good sport & since my light roasting got to you so easily, I’ll bump it up to 2-stars, AND, I won’t press charges. Just be nice & polite to people when they help & support your business, k?...

Nobody is taking charge, it’s complete chaos. Tables sitting empty with many patrons standing waiting for a table while the entire outside patio sat un bused. I was served a broken water cup and thankfully didn’t get cut. I was also served my food of a piping hot plate. Think lava hot 🥵 and I burnt my hand moving it. Would have been nice to be told not to touch the plate. And last but not least the portions are tiny for the price. Bottom line, this place is cute and has potential in the correct hands.
Great service. Prices seemed reasonable. Very hopping place. The Fresh made pastries we’re OK at best. Would have been better if they were not overcooked. Just go to Depot bakery. I was Very disappointed in how both the baristas were dressed with their barely there attire. It made me very uncomfortable and I am sure it would make any respectful man even more uncomfortable as this is a family place. Sure I’ll go back my kids like the ice cream that would...
