My friends and I decided to place a take-out order for a few dozen wings from the Carriage Inn. We placed the order at 7:18 pm with a promised pick-up time of 8:00 pm. We arrived promptly at 8:00 pm and found the restaurant had a few patrons but was not overwhelmingly busy.
Despite the seemingly manageable crowd, we found ourselves waiting at the bar for a full 30 minutes before our order was ready. We didn't receive our food until 8:30 pm. During our wait, we overheard the bartender inquire about our order to what we assumed was a manager. However, no one communicated anything to us regarding the delay or the status of our order.
The delay was particularly frustrating as we had planned to make it back home before the start of the Penguins game. Unfortunately, due to the delay, we missed the first period entirely. What added to our disappointment was the lack of an apology or acknowledgment of the inconvenience caused.
We suspect that our order was not even started until after we arrived. Wings typically take between 12-18 minutes to cook, yet we waited double that time in the restaurant.
When we finally got our wings, they were not up to the standard we expected. They were gummy rather than extra crispy as we had ordered. Moreover, several wings appeared bruised and unappetizing, which was quite off-putting.
It's worth mentioning that we have dined in at the Carriage Inn before and had an excellent experience with the food. However, this recent experience with our take-out order was severely disappointing.
We were looking forward to enjoying our meal while watching the game, but unfortunately, the overall experience fell far short of our expectations. Things just aren't like they used to be. I also downloaded the Xooker app, where you can get coupons and sometimes order gift cards at discounted prices. Well, we've been able to use the $5 off $3 coupons w/ no issues. However, thru this app, I took advantage of a $20 gift card for only $12. I ordered two (2)..BUT!! Cell service has always been a bit sketchy in that immediate area, h inside the restaurant itself. The 1st time I tried to use the gift cards I bought @ a discount the little circle just spun around and around on my phone. Our server was very new, and the restaurant was very busy, so we just said nevermind. I tried to use it just the other day, and THEY'VE EXPIRED!! Now this is NO FAULT of Carriage Inn, but since we are long-term regular customers, I asked if the server could get a manager or owner to over-ride the expiration and allow us to redeem for the discount. She said no, that I had to contact Xooker & there was nothing Carriage Inn could or WOULD do. So we paid our check, at full price, & I contacted Xooker and still have not received any response from them. So I'm out $24, which ticks me off in principle alone, but then add on the disappointing meals we've been getting, I'm not giving them a 5 Star rating, as I would have in the past. We've also ordered food for Delivery several times, & it's ALWAYS over an hour to get the food, and inevitably there's a dressing missing or a topping mistake, and 99% of the time, the food is cold. Needless to say most places were booked with weddings or graduation parties. The staff at Carriage Inn worked with me to accommodate our group despite multiple changes in our hasty planning. Diane, Holly and Kayla did an outstanding job communicating and understanding our needs. They took a lot of stress out of a difficult situation and were always willing to work with our changes. On the day of the event, Raven and Samantha went above and beyond to make our experience a positive one. They handled our challenging crew perfectly. Beyond the staff, the food was outstanding. Perfect temperature, nice presentation and most of all, delicious! We could not be happier with the experience at the Carriage Inn and we will now be loyal customers and spread the word about our experience.
