My son wanted to take me out for a nice dinner. L's Kitchen was mentioned many, many times!
He started with a Cocktail, the Sage Grouse. It is made with Bourbon and he loved it, One whiff and I knew it was not for me đŹ. For an app we both decided on the Eggplant Parmesan Bites. I have no idea what kind of wizardry goes into making these but they were full of magical deliciousness. Highly recommend!
My Boy Child chose one of the night's specials, the Beef Bourguignon. It's like a beef stew made with red wine. He said it was homey and yummy. Total comfort food that hit the spot. Since we were in a French restaurant I had to go with the Parmesan Mushroom Risotto. Sooooo rich and creamy. A surprise ingredient was the green olives which added a pop of briny saltiness. After 30 minutes of eating it, it still looked like I barely touched the dish and had lots to take home.
I don't often get desserts but again, French restaurant, how can you not?! I asked the Boy if he'd split the special Fondant au Chocolat with me. Again very rich, that Whipped Cream was amazing. It may be small but I literally only got halfway through it. He was excited over the Bread Pudding. Absolutely loved it! Tried a bite, too sweet for me. He ended up taking the remainder home and ordered the Chocolate Mousse to go for his woman.
Everyone here is very friendly. Chef Lawrence greets every table with an introduction and the Specials. Our server Kathleen was an attentive pro. After we left I realized we never had any of the fresh baked bread I'd seen in other pics and I was kinda sad. Me and bread are like BFFs. Don't know how we missed it!
My son declared this place a new favorite and we can't wait to return. Portions are large and price point is Very reasonable for what...
Read moreWe were just visiting Lincoln from Omaha for the day and literally found L's Kitchen by accident as it was near the where we were visiting. Found it on the internet looking for places for lunch nearby.
4.8 stars, French, and in Lincoln? Could it really be any good? But how can you not love a French restaurant the serves real Hungarian Goulash? So we tried it. For lunch.
What a surprise! The outside, not so much to look at. We almost turned around and went somewhere else. But we were hungry so we went in. Nice decor, friendly real French owner.
Goulash was not on the lunch menu! Horrors! But not a problem; the owner and chef made it for me anyway. Hot freshly made rolls just out from the oven. Delicious!
The food alone was well worth the drive from Omaha! The best goulash I've had in years. Butter tender meat, tasty broth. Just wonderful! A little French hidden gem in Lincoln! A total but wonderful surprise!
They open at 5:30 for dinner. Best to make an online reservation because they have no phone and relatively few tables which are spread out and not crowded together. When I asked the owner, he said he wants people to feel comfortable, relax, and spend as much time as they wanted without feeling crowded or rushed. I wish more restaurants had the same philisophy!
Have tickets to a show at Lied's? Coming from Omaha? Make a dinner reservation here first! We did for an upcoming performance! And save room for dessert!
This is a wonderful restaurant. Try it and you won't be...
Read moreWhat a fantastic find during our stay in Lincoln, NE. I was a bit skeptical when I googled the location because the building looked like it was not occupied. Knowing that Google isn't always up-to-date on images, we did a drive by & found it was indeed open. There were several cars in the lot (higher end vehicles) so we stopped. Dont let the landscaping keep you away, it needed some serious attention. Found out the restaurant only leases the premises (but still......the image needs to reflect your business) This was the diamond in the rough. It's a cute little place with bar stools & tables. The menu favored a French style of food, but not solely. We ordered the Wild Caught Scallops & Atlantic Salmon. Both fresh never frozen items, and from a landlocked restaurant in the middle of the country. Both were done to perfection! We couldn't pass up dessert, so one had the Home-made Brownie w/ice cream & one had the Bread Pudding. DO NOT PASS THIS UP!! Both were delicious. We had the opportunity to speak with the Chef (it was near closing time & only one other table remaining) with whom we had a lengthy conversation. Having worked in a similar type restaurant 25 years prior, I was interested in his story. He's a wonderful young man who is doing great things and IMO, moving in a good direction for building a successful future. Please don't let the exterior (maybe they took action & it's tidied up) keep you from giving this restaurant a try. The service and food...
