Slim Chickens — Restaurant in Lincoln

We ordered take out Saturday 9/7/24 around 5:30. The order was supposed to be ready at 5:45. Around 6:00 they brought out our drinks and said there was a mix up in the kitchen and our order would be ready shortly. As we continued to wait, I observed one kitchen staff member frequently walk out to a booth and talk with his friends. There were not many people in the restaurant or the drive through. Several people came in and ordered at the counter, and received their food, all while we were waiting. While we waited, I took the time to fill out their online complaint form and once that was done, I brought our drink carrier back up to the front counter and told the counter person we were tired of waiting, here's your drinks back, and we're leaving. About 10 seconds after we got in the car, here comes a kitchen person running out with our food. Since I didn't feel like going somewhere else, I reluctantly accepted the food and told them I left the drinks inside, so I guess they can keep those. I was getting ready to back out when he ran back in and grabbed the drinks and brought those out too. Once we got the food home, pretty much everything was wrong with the order. The fried mushrooms were cold and soggy. The chicken tenders were cold and dry. My wife had ordered potato salad for a side but got mushrooms instead. The grease from the mushrooms had soaked into the cardboard food container to the point that it was almost transparent with grease. It would be one thing if they were busy and running behind and our food was made fresh. But the food we received had clearly been waiting in the back as long as we had been waiting in the front, while the staff was more concerned about chatting with their friends than completing our order. On the complaint form I indicated I wanted someone to contact me about the experience and left my phone number and email. No one from the store or corporate has reached out, so now I'm leaving this review. I like Slim Chickens food, but this location desperately needs a manager. Do not order from this location unless you do it in person, and don't wait more than 20 minutes for your food, or it will likely be cold or...

I live in Omaha but hear Slim Chickens advertised quite a bit on my favorite radio station KZKX 96.9 so when I was in Lincoln today with my two little boys I made it a point to drive 7 miles out of my way to stop by Slim Chickens and give it a shot. I figured since it was home-made southern style chicken strips it had to be good.

Pros: -Generous portions. Tons of fries. -Loved the design of building, the ambiance, the seats and chairs -Service was good, even though I only saw two employees -Good variety of dipping sauces. I recommend the Cayenne Ranch

Cons: -Chicken was bland -Breading is bland, seems to have no seasoning at all -Chicken was very chewy and very nearly undercooked. It was fully cooked but just barely. Seems they are cutting very close to serving under-cooked chicken in an apparent effort to ensure the strips come out juicy -Chicken itself was juicy, but again, chewy and nearly undercooked -Fries had some seasoning but the seasoning was not very strong in flavor and very little seasoning was present -Parking area and stalls are oddly small. If you drive a pickup, park further away and walk up.

I wanted to like this place, but frankly, Raising Cane's is significantly better. I literally make better homemade chicken strips than Slim Chickens at home in...

Decided to try Slim Chicken as I was Lincoln and have been hearing their ads for awhile now (still waiting on an Omaha location!)

It was a very good meal. Got the 3 pc tender dinner. The breading was thin and tastful, didnt fall off while eating them. The tenders were like a chicken breast just cut in half, good in size and tasty. I will try the grilled version on my next trip.

The potato salad was flavorful and had good bacon taste. Potatoes were good, not over cooked mush or undercooked hard chunks like other places serve. I would to see celery added to give it a bit of crunch.

I also added a side of their mac & cheese. It was well worth it. Even the noodles were good on flavor and the perfect texture. The sauce was nice and rich without being over powering. I would have liked to see a crunchy bread crumb or potato chip crumb topping to really set this off.
