The fish was good. They are using U.S. pond raised catfish. I had not been here in years, and now I remember why. I call ahead with my order, and it was still not ready 20 minutes later when I got there. This neighborhood icon has been there for a long time. This restaurant is a little converted house next to the freeway. The fish is always cooked to order. They will only allow ten dine-in customers at a time. I will have to come back when the dining room Is fully open and enjoy a cold beer while my order is being prepared.

I heard this place is legendary in Little Rock so I went and got why. They serve catfish and buffalo fish ribs that feel like crunchy treasures from Southern history. This diner has serious roots—civil rights leaders used to meet here, and it has that badge of honor from the James Beard people. I had a plate of catfish hush puppies and coleslaw sat quietly and felt like I was part of something much bigger than fish and grease. Price was modest mood was deep food was memorable.

This place is a must if your in LR. I took my mom for lunch (to go) after her eye surgery and everything was delicious. She got a medium buffalo meal and I got half buffalo and half catfish steak. We both got okra and slaw, tomato relish and a side pickles and onion. We were too hungry to take a picture but I snapped a pic of the menu for the next time I go. ☺️

I usually don't write reviews, But I was so hurt and disappointed in my experience. I love supporting small businesses, especially black owned, but this one will never get my support again. My late grandfather loved this place and I never been. So one day I thought about my grandfather and decided to go to one of his favorite places. I walk in at 7:07 p.m. and decide to get a buffalo dinner fried hard. I mentioned to him that this was my grandfather's favorite fish place. He mentioned that he knew my grandfather and that he was also at his funeral. That put a smile on my.While I was ordering he also mentioned that they would be closing at 7:30. I said awesome! That means I made it just in time. So he was done frying my fish at 7:20. He walked outside with my food and I asked him was it fried hard. He said since they are getting ready to close they wouldn't be able to fix it if it wasn't. I also asked for ketchup and hot sauce. He went back in and grabbed me some and had a attitude about it. So I mentioned to him that business is business and I hope he has an awesome day. He smiled and I smiled also. This was in early September. When I received my fish they were so small. But I decided to give it another try anyway in November. This time I decide to eat inside. I laugh and smile with the lady who takes my order. She goes to the back and tells the owner that I'm my grandfather's granddaughter. The owner comes to the table and tell me he doesn't appreciate me coming late last time and that he doesn't appreciate how I treated him last time. I was so respectful to this man last time and was still respectful to him in the moment. I responded by saying I only asked was my fish fried hard. And he stated well. You didn't appreciate me saying till 7:40 cooking your fish. Mind you I was out before they even closed. So he walked to the kitchen and I looked at him with confusion. Then he said why are you looking at me like that?. At that point I was ready to go and I told them to cancel my order. Everyone always talks about how bad his customer service is. I didn't believe it until now. For him to be so rude to me for no reason and come to me with so much anger. Was definitely disappointing. This is not a place, I will share a memory again for my...

Mean and surly. Use to live the fine in experience. He barked about me standing out the counter to place an order then when I went to be seated to wait in the order he came over to my table asking me if I was okay now. I was like I’m fine. Then started again fussing about not wanting his place to be “ghetto” that’s why he doesn’t allow people to stand at the counter. Again I said okay. Sitting there a black gentlemen was checking g out and a white couple came to the counter clearly closer than I was standing he nothing but kindness and thanked them repeatedly for coming. Then called my name to pick up my order. I almost cancelled it earlier but this establishment is a staple in the community so I stayed. While paying he started again saying he was giving me a piece of cake for free for fussing at me. I told him no you were fussing at yourself because I will not engage. He started at me in confusion and I left. Got the food home. Paid $20 for medium filet sigh only and there were three nugget sized catfish strips with three pieces of bread on top. I don’t like my fish with juice cooking out so I trashed it. I will keep eating my Dads or fry my own. If you are going to be that grumpy at least give the food to...

One of the two restaurants in Arkansas to receive the prestigious James Beard Culinary Award. Woo hoo!! Must drop in for the most perfectly fried fish ever. The small dinner has three big pieces of your choice of catfish filets, catfish steaks, or Buffalo fish. I always have the bone in catfish steaks whenever offered. Very good with a bit more flavor than fillets. Fries and slaw with two hush puppies make this a big treat. The fries have a special crunch and are absolutely delicious. Hush puppies are golden nuggets of loaded rustic corn meal, bits of jalapeño and onions. Very good. The slaw was so tasty and light. No heavy mayo here. We also ordered the green tomato relish and fried okra. Wow!! The decor is quaint and the service is great. A true Arkansas historic delight in a hole in the wall blue building just off Interstate 30 near downtown...
