Today, we had the most 'Aaamaaazing' meal at Grandpa's Kitchen, a fabulous little quaint restaurant in Littleton NC! So, Thursdays-Sundays are the days to mark your calendars, set your alarms or whatever reminder needed so, you too can experience the best barbeque (North Carolina style) in Town. The secret, this establishment does it the old school, back in the day way. This is authentic genuine Whole Hog (the whole pig, rooter to the tooter) roasted, and rendered down into the most succulent, moist, tender and mouthwatering lip smackin, finger lickin offering of meats that will pass your lips in the county!!! Jeff Mills is a Master of the pit!!! What he's doing is an art that he has unselfishly shared with any who wish to partake. Chef Jeff elevates his generous offering by (for those not fond of the pig) adding chopped turkey as well as bbq chicken. Now, his sauce, needs to be bottled, sold and enjoyed with whatever your heart desires!!! I chose a combination plate that had 2 meats, 2 sides (potatoes salad/Black 👀 peas and 4 hush puppies for a mere $10.00 (Whaaaat, you heard, $10.00)!!! He had Ribs (long bone)...Mmmmmmmmmmmmm😋😚🤩. We got sauce for the road, (eternally grateful) and 2 chopped bbq sandwiches to go!! Greedy, you might ask? No, addicted on the 1st try! We will be back EVERY TIME we're on Lake Gaston. Our last meal was our best meal!! Our compliments to the Chef!!! And certainly not to be overlooked, the customer service and personal touches as well as making you feel as if you've been invited to his his home. This establishment deserves...
Read moreWe went to Grandpa's Kitchen today for the first time. Before I ordered a lady was sitting waiting on her order and she said, "just so you know I have been here 45 min waiting for my togo" From the time we ordered until the time the food came was about 20 min. Their pork bbq I give five stars! It was worth the drive from Apex, however, the rest of the food not so much. I got the bbq chicken and pork w/slaw and cabbage, I had wanted the ribs and turkey stew but they did not have either of those. The chicken was dry and no smoke or flame had ever touched it. It was baked which I do not like to begin with and even though the chicken was dry the skin was not even browned; I would have to say it was more like it had been boiled. I also got a banana pudding and you would have to search for the pudding. It tasted like cool whip, banana and wafers with no pudding. The cabbage did not taste like it had even been seasoned with anything but some salt and for the slaw I have purchased better from the grocery store. After having heard the reviews I expect a lot better. I would not return for any of the plates and sides, however, I would go back just to get the Pork BBQ it is that good. Also the hushpuppies were pretty good. I would pick some of them up to go with the pork. We picked up four lbs. pork bbq to bring home and two lbs of the turkey bbq because my...
Read moreEverything about this place was amazing. Ms. Johnell took our order and described everything perfectly. We had the pig wings (bbq chicken wings) and they were some of the best juicy, flavorful wings I’ve ever had. The potato salad AMAZING. The cole slaw AMAZING. The turkey stew was hearty and full of veggies and shredded turkey meat and the gravy was delicious. The turkey bbq and the pork bbq was out of this world. If you want something sweet you HAVE to try the hummingbird cake 10/10. We had banana pudding that compared to none and sweet potato pie. The price for the food makes you feel bad because it’s so affordable and you get a good amount of food with your order. I would advise you to call and order ahead as the wait can be an little long but well worth it.Over all this place is a 10/10 and the service sets it over the top I wish we could give 6 stars. Ms. Johnell...
